The next morning I sit in the same spot with Vincent, and we talk to one another about our lives and what not.
I learned that he played Soccer and was pretty good at it too, from what he told me. He has an older sister named Isabella, and his mom and dad are 100% Italian. His family moved here from Italy when Isabella was about a year old, before Vincent was born. Vincent was born here, not long after his family moved to the United States.
"Huh, so you're 100% Italian, that's pretty cool," I said.
"Yeah dude, what's your ethnicity?" he asked. I froze. Nobody has ever asked me that. How do I answer? I can't tell him my ethnicity is a wolf! That would sound more than crazy!
"Uhh, I ,uh, don't know?" is all I can say to him.
"How don't you know?" he asked, laughing. "You've never asked your mom?"
"Well, uh, I'm kinda adopted..?" I answer. I felt my cheeks flush, and my palms start to sweat.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he says. I force a nervous laugh.
"Don't be sorry," I say as the bus pulls up to our school and the doors open. All of the kids on our bus file out of the bus door. I follow Vincent.
"What home room do you have?" I ask him.
"Mrs. Rossi, she teaches English. What about you?"
"Mr. Bent, English. You're in 7th grade, right?"
"Yes," he answers.
"Cool, me too. You must have the other English teacher," I say. We both giggle.
"You could say that."
Vincent walked me to my locker, and we chatted a bit more as I got my books. When I was about to close my locker, Avery and Brice walk up to me, holding hands of course. Avery gave me a sly look as she walked up.
"Well well, who is this?" she asked with a huge grin on her face.
"This is Vincent, my friend. He and I ride the same bus," I answer giving her the look that says 'he's hot.' She winked at me and I close my locker making a loud 'bang.'
"Well I'll see you in home room, girl," She says winking again.
"Okay," I wink back at her. Avery and Brice kiss each other and separate, Avery walking into our class, and Brice walking into the class right next door.
Relationship goals. I thought.
I hold my books in my hand, and turn to look at Vincent.
"Do you want me to walk you to your locker?" I ask.
"Sure! If you want to," he says cheerfully.
"Of course I want to," I say. He smiles and turns to the end of the hall. He leads me all the way down the very end of the hall to a small group of about 20 lockers, then opens one on the bottom row.
"Are you ready for school?" he asks fully knowing the answer to that question. He rummaged around in his locker for a bit.
"Hell no," I say, laughing. He laughs along and pulls out the books he needs for his first three classes, and slams the door to his locker shut.
"Well, I should head off to home room now," I say turning towards the direction to my class.
"W-wait! Let me walk you!" he says and catches up to me. I glance over at him and see that he is slightly blushing.
As we approach my class room we both stop at the door.
"I'll see you on the bus, kid," he says and he smirked. I smirked back at him.
