His eyes lock into the mirror with himself. Green eyes.
Devoid of any hint of blue.
Like a new little leaf. She had concluded one day. Or a mighty forest. She amended, amused, as she took in his expressions.
A new little leaf. A new little life.
Hers perhaps.
But as he looks on he remembers why he had broken all the mirrors in his room.
The Other stares back at him. His face frozen in that pathetic smile of his.
The one that almost makes him get on his knees and beg again.
The one that makes him believe he never made out.
"Come little one let us go." The Others voice says from behind him.
And for a minute, the entire time he spent with the Avengers comes crashing down at him. He almost start to follow what his master has asked.
But then he is in the Avengers tower, in her bathroom, concrete surrounding him.
The thought of her being so close to that monster sends chills down his spine.
Thanos had many children and many servants out of all of them, the Other was the worst.
The sound of his laughter fills the little space that is constantly collapsing in on itself.
He holds on to the counter as a fit of nausea hits him so hard he...
Can't breath.
"Pathetic. No wonder Odin didn't want you."
He feels the bricks and mortar give way under his relentless fingers.
"This is why they never came looking for you."
Not real.
He gasps trying to force air in.
He can't hurt you anymore.
"Is that so love?" A gentle hand on his back mocks him.
Not real.
He closes his eyes tightly.
"A child trying to force his fears away."
A cold breath on his cheeks makes him want to puke. He is glad he didn't eat last night.
Please stop.
Please.
No more.
"Real enough?" The other holds him close and murmurs in his ear.
No.
His scream is stuck in his throat.
All rational thoughts leaving him, but one.
She cannot come in now.
Not with him here.
So he swallows his plea.
He cannot go out either. What if the other followed him?
So he was stuck.
He cannot hurt you. He repeats to himself. He cannot.
"Loki." The Other calls him again.
Such concern in his voice that no one would even imagine he had done all the things that still plagued his nightmares.
"Please." He feels the tears fall.
"Oh little one. Don't cry. You knew we'd come looking. Master cares for you, you know. He sent me here himself."
The Other takes a step back and Loki turns to face the very real commander standing there.
"No. Please." He beggs again. Please.
The cruelest of smiles adorn his face. As he cocks his head to the door. To the soft footfalls coming from the hallway, treading ever so near.
"Perhaps another time." He whispers.
As if they are lovers meeting in secret.
"In the meantime I have a message for you Loki; enjoy your time here. You don't have much left." The other reaches out. Fingertips hovering over his face.
Too close.
Too real.
"You know what that means don't you trickster?"
He is painfully aware of the broken counter digging into his back. The rest of his thoughts are solely focused on keeping both himself and her alive.
"We'll see you again. Soon." The threat, he felt, was very real and so morbidity urgent.
Perhaps he didn't have all the time he needed.
The minute the Others fingers made contact with his face his face his world erupted in an explosion of pain.
A memory made it's way into his consciousness. He hoped it was a memory.
He was sitting with The mad titan. Looking at yet another destroyed planet.
They hadn't spared anyone on this plant. He had made sure no one escaped, as he had been commanded.
"I didn't want this." The mad titan mused. Almost to himself then to the prince sitting by his feet on the lowest step of the stairs leading to the enormous throne he was seated at.
He remembered that the mad titan had instructed him clearly to leave no survivors. Not from this planet.
For all his talks of being fair and only wanting to protect the world he had been more than unfair in not only his schemes but his desires as well.
"But alas." He looked so pained anyone would believe him. Then he looked at Loki, "you have fought so hard my son, make sure the people of earth you care for so much do not anger me in such a way."
He almost said his brother was the one who cared for those midgardians, almost said he would be happy to kill them all, for him.
But his master hated when he lied. So instead he said,"yes, master."
Yes, I'll make sure they don't anger you. Yes, I'll do whatever you ask. Yes. To anything you ask master. How can I say no?
"Loki!"
He was so far away, the name was lost on him. Who was Loki?
But he knew that voice. His brothers voice. What was his name? He didn't know.
All he knew was that voice was home.
"Loki!"
It came closer, was more insistent.
He knew that name.
"Loki, what......"
Her he remembered.
His name. It was his name she spoke, he spoke.
He wills every poisoned part of him to burn away.
And all that remains is him, Thor Odinson.
And all that remains is her, y/n l/n.
Maybe he didn't have all the time he wanted, but he had them and that was good enough.
No more secrets. No more hiding.
