The days passed quickly and turned swiftly into months. You tried to retain whatever happiness you could, and that proved to be surprisingly easy with Silas around. The prince seemed to notice how your mother's visit had made you more quiet, somewhat, and did his best to cheer you up.

( "I made another pet," Silas told you quietly the week after your mother had visited you. "Do you want to see it?"

The news was like a day of sunshine after a month of drought. Your eyes sparkled as you sat up immediately, looking around. "You did? Where? I thought you said you didn't like making pets, for it took up too much time and mana. You said that Elias would be the first and last pet you would make."

"You looked sad." Was all Silas stated, his tone plain and simple. "I thought this would cheer you up."

You flung your arms around him. "Oh, Silas!" You gushed, "you're so sweet!"

Silas softened. "Just be happy, Y/n."

"I will, with this," you grinned at Silas, "hey, since I'm in a good mood? Do you wanna hear a joke? Since I'm feeling all happy now."

"...Sure," Silas said after a pause. Your jokes...weren't the best. Frankly speaking, they were terrible.

"What would be bears with bees?" You asked him.

"...I don't know."

"Ears," you said triumphantly, looking proudly at him. "Made that up myself."

There was a stretch of silence before you saw Silas smiling, his dimples evident. "That wasn't funny at all, Y/n."

"I was funny!" You accused. "You smiled."

No, Silas had smiled because he liked hearing your merry laugh. He wanted to preserve that laugh forever.

"Ugh, Nevermind. What's type of animal is the pet, anyway?")

The pet turned out to be a tiny turtle. It was a rather odd choice for a pet, but nevertheless, you were delighted and touched by Silas's moving gift. Silas mentioned that he chose the turtle as it would serve as a metaphor that things were supposed to be taken easy and slow. You had laughed with giddiness — you didn't even know what a metaphor was.

You named the turtle Daisy. It seemed like a rather befitting name, considering that Silas had made it while you two were busy making daisy flower crowns. Secretly, you thought that making flower crowns was an activity too childish for a twelve year old to do, but you obliged anyway, as it allowed you to return back to your childhood days. It allowed you to return back to a mindset where your mother had not hated you yet.
