There was silence after Silvia said those four words.

I love you. How you had ached to hear those words. You had chased after them your whole life, and now someone was readily offering that to you.

(Silas had said those words to you constantly. Perhaps it was because he said it so often, you sometimes wondered whether those words were heavy or simply something light to be tossed around.)

Your mind spun. Silvia was offering you her hand in marriage. By proclaiming those words, she was telling you that she wanted to marry you, and that she wanted to become your lover.

"Y/n —" Silvia paused. "Do you know why I confessed?"

Why was she asking you that? Who cared? She loved you, didn't she? That was why she confessed.

"Because I wanted closure, Y/n," she swallowed, "you are a people pleaser to the very core. I know that you will agree — especially in your current state. But I'll remind you: you love His Highness. You adore him, really. You two even kissed then."

"Why are you telling me all this?" You asked.

"Y/n—"

I just want to get this over and done with, you thought tiredly.

"Silas and I kissed, yes, but we — after what he has done, after what I've accused him of, after our last conversation — I'm not sure if we'll ever coexist the same way again. I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life with you," you said quietly. "I wouldn't mind at all, Silvia. You're a lovely woman."

Don't say any of this, your brain warned you, you are angry at Silas. You are saying all this because you are furious at him. Because —

Silvia's eyes widened. "Are you saying...?"

You gave a weak shrug. "I don't know. But if I say yes, perhaps everything will be a little easier, wouldn't it? Yes. You wanted that answer, didn't you?"

A face kept popping in your head.

Silas. Silas. Silas. Silas —

You curbed the headache and gritted your teeth. Your heart felt like it was tearing into a million pieces. Silas had killed your mother. Silas has murdered her in cold blood.

"You wouldn't mind, but you wouldn't love it," Silvia whispered, "you wouldn't look at me in the mornings and think; that is my beautiful wife. That is someone that I would die for. That is someone I adore—"
