"Addison, what are you doing here?", Derek asked. "Your hair's different." "A lot of things are different." "It's longer. I like it. It's very Russell Crowe. And you look great too, Lola. It's good to see you.", Addison said, turning to me. "No, Addison, you don't get to call me that anymore. Not after what you did." "What are you doing here?", Derek asked, once again. "What are you doing here? You just pick up and leave everything? Your house, your practice, your friends? You have a life in Manhattan." "Had.", Derek replied. "And now you have a girlfriend in Seattle. She seems sweet. She's sweet, right, Lola?" My eyes were facing the floor. I couldn't even look at her. "The ice you're on. Thin.", Derek said, walking past Addison. "She's young. That whole wide-eyed, he's-a-brain-surgeon thing happening, but still sweet. Which was what you were going for, right? The anti-Addison?", she said, making him turn around. "If you came out here to try to win me back, you can forget about it." She stepped closer to him, leaving me a couple of meters behind. "I did, I flew all the way across the country to reminisce over wedding photos, get drunk, fall into bed and make you realise you can't live without me. Relax, Derek. I'm here for work. I'm helming the TTTS case you guys admitted last week and from Richard's briefing, I should be -" Derek interrupted her. "Richard knew you were coming out here?" "He asked me to come. Didn't he tell you?" "No, he didn't." "Hmm. Surprise.", she said, turning to face me again. "I should get going, but we'll catch up later, right? I missed you, Lola." She put her hand on my arm for a moment, before walking away. Derek stepped closer to me. "You okay?", I asked. "No. Are you?" "Not really. You should probably look for Meredith. She's definitely pissed at us." "Yeah, I should." Suddenly, Derek was paged and I followed him.
I saw Meredith, George and Cristina standing at the nurses station, waiting for new updates on bartender Joe, who collapsed at work. At first I hesitated, but then I approached them. We just stood there, in silence, with them giving me angry looks. "Why are you back here tonight? Don't you have a date with McDreamy?", Izzie asked as she approached the nurses station. "More like McMarried.", George replied. "McWhat?" Izzie looked at me in confusion. "I came to check on Joe.", Meredith said. "Do you think he's gonna be okay?" "You think he's gonna need an operation?" Derek came to update us. "Operation? Yes. Okay? Hard to tell. Basilar artery's like a balloon. Subarachnoid bleeding. Aneurysm the size of a golf ball.", he said. The tension grew even deeper. "No way to clip something like that.", I said. "Not without magic fingers." "Or a standstill operation.", Derek explained. "You're doing a standstill - he's doing a standstill operation.", Cristina said as the other interns were looking at her with unamused looks. "I'd like to try. But first I need some additional patient history, overnight labs and a cerebral angio.", Derek said, handing Meredith Joe's chart. "I'm drunk.", she said, looking at him in disbelief and then walking away. "Meredith.", Derek said, following her. Cristina took Joe's chart, in order to steal the case. "What are you doing?", George asked. "Uh, I am on her side. But we're talking a possible standstill here. Recognise.", she said, walking away. Izzie and George looked at me, waiting for me to say something about the situation, but I just turned around and made my way back home. After all, this was between Meredith, Derek and me.
The next morning, in the locker room, the other interns were completely ignoring me. The only person that would talk to me was Alex. "So, is it true? Shepherd's married?", he asked. "Yeah. I advised him to tell Meredith like a hundred times and that's what I tried explaining to her, but she just won't listen.", I complained. "I get it. If I was her I'd probably not talk to you either.", he replied, laughing. "Thanks Alex, you're a great friend.", I said, rolling my eyes. A few moments later, Bailey came in to assign us. "Yang, you're on discharges. O'Malley report to room E19. Grey and Shepherd come see me. And who was on call last night? Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. Redo these and return them to me before lunch, understood?", she said, turning to Alex and Izzie and handing them charts. Meredith and I looked at each other, not knowing why Bailey especially wanted us to see her. "Somebody's popular." "Meaning?", we said in unison. "There's been a special request, just for the two of you."
