A few days had passed and Charlie had somehow managed to avoid both Mark and any awkward follow-up conversation about what had happened in his hotel room. To be fair, Mark hadn't approached her either, which made things easier - and somehow harder. On top of that, Meredith had finally recovered from her appendectomy and was back on her feet. Today was also Izzie's first day back at work after the events with Denny and everyone could feel the mixture of tension and hope as she tried to reintegrate into the team.
That morning, as Charlie, Meredith, George and Izzie crowded into the elevator on their way to the locker rooms, Izzie seemed to be in her own head. "Stay calm, stay positive, you can do this.", she repeated to herself. Just before the elevator doors opened, she flashed them all a quick, nervous smile before stepping out and heading down the hall. The remaining three stayed in the elevator, watching her go, a silent understanding passing between them as they exchanged glances. Each of them had their own complaints and frustrations piling up - feelings that needed airing.
Breaking the silence, George reached over and hit the stop-button, causing the elevator to halt with a small jolt. "Alright. I'll be your Cristina if you two are my Izzie for a minute."
Charlie and Meredith exchanged glances before nodding in agreement. "Deal.", Meredith said and they settled in, each knowing they'd finally get a chance to unload.
Meredith went first. She sighed, her voice tinged with frustration. "I went to Derek's trailer last night. Thought I'd talk to him. But there was another woman there. Apparently, he's already moved on."
Charlie raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Derek? Really?" She couldn't believe her brother would be with someone else so quickly, not after everything he'd been through with Meredith.
"McDreamy did the McNasty with McHottie?", George asked, trying to act like Cristina, making Charlie and Meredith almost burst out laughing.
There was a brief pause before they all turned to Charlie. She exhaled, knowing she's been holding in her own frustrations. "Let's just say - Mark hasn't exactly tried to talk to me since I visited him at his hotel room." She rolled her eyes, more to convince herself than anyone else. "But who cares? It doesn't matter."
Meredith smirked, arching an eyebrow. "Oh, sure, totally doesn't matter."
"Right.", George chimed in, shaking his head with a knowing look. They didn't buy it for a second.
George then let out a long sigh. "And Callie - she hasn't talked to me since she dumped me." His shoulders slumped and he looked genuinely defeated.
"Well, she's probably busy screwing Mark.", Charlie muttered under her breath. She didn't tell George that she caught Callie in Mark's hotel room because he would've freaked out.
Trying to lighten things, Meredith gave George a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. "Hey, remember, Izzie always says there's someone out there for everyone."
