I couldn't shake off the thoughts of this Jace guy. God, the attitude he showed. I mean, who doesn't say hi back?
Ethan was cooking scrambled eggs for us while I handled the coffee. He handed me a plate and sat opposite me, looking relaxed.
"Ethan, what's the deal with your brother?" I asked, trying to mask my annoyance.
"What? Oh. Baby, he's just like that. Always has been. Complicated," he said with a shrug, taking a sip of his coffee.
I couldn't help but pry more. "Complicated how?"
"He's always been a loner. Family shit or something." He took my hands in his. "Babe, don't let him ruin your day."
"Family shit?" I pressed, curious.
"Well, we're stepbrothers. I don't really know his past. We only came into each other's lives when I was 15. Lived together for about a year, and then he moved out."
I listened, still confused by Jace's abruptness.
"Babe, let's focus on us," Ethan said, bringing my attention back to him.
"Yeah," I replied, feeling a twinge of guilt.
I moved to sit on Ethan's lap and kissed him, and he pulled me in closer.
"Last night was amazing, Ethan," I said, looking into his eyes.
"You looked sexy in my shirt," he smirked, and just like that, Jace faded from my mind. We were lost in each other, devouring kisses, when my phone rang.
"You have to answer?" Ethan asked, slightly annoyed.
"Might be important," I said, giving him one last kiss before checking my phone.
"Ivy, I need help," Mia said on the other end, her voice urgent.
"I'll be there," I replied, worry creeping in.
What happened to Mia? Was everything alright?
I asked Ethan to drop me off, and he did without hesitation, but my mind was already racing with concern for my friend.
