I wasn't supposed to fall for her. That wasn't part of the plan. Ivy was supposed to be just another girl in a world full of fleeting moments. I knew what I was doing—always keeping people at arm's length, never letting anyone in too close. But she broke through without even trying, and before I knew it, everything started to slip out of control.
I watched her from a distance, always staying one step away from crossing the line. She had a light in her that was too bright, too blinding for someone like me. I wasn't good for her. I knew that. Everyone knew that. But the more I tried to stay away, the more I found myself drawn to her. The way she laughed, the way her eyes lit up when she was passionate about something—it got under my skin, and soon enough, there was no escape.
It was all crashing down now. I could feel it, like a storm waiting to hit, and I was standing in its direct path. My life was a mess, my thoughts were tangled, and every time I looked at her, I saw everything I could never have. But I couldn't stop myself. I couldn't pull away. Not until it was too late.
Maybe it was better this way—leaving before everything went up in flames. Before I dragged her down with me.
Because I always ruin things. Always.
