Elijah - POV

"What was that?" I ask as we step into the elevator to go up to the infirmity. The door closed as my mind tried to reconcile what it witnessed.

"What do you mean?" Is the confused reply I get as I look down at my mate.

"Danny and Callum?" I give him a questioning look as he tilts his head. Like he has no idea what I'm talking about. I groan as I rub my face. "They were acting weird. Didn't you notice?"

His confused expression morphs into a small grin before he blanks his expression. "No clue."

My jaw drops at the obvious lie. "Bullshit. What's going on?" I demand, just as the elevator door opens.

"You'll have to ask your friend." Is all the jerk will tell me as he drags me out of the elevator and down the hall. I scoff at his nonresponse.

"You're my mate. You have to tell me!" I demand. Refusing to let this go. And again, he brushes it off as we reach the office. My annoyance at its peak as he knocks and enters the room.

"Sean." My mate bows before stepping aside and ushering me into the exam room. I scowl at him, not understanding why we are here. Ignoring the short smiling Asian man as I cross my arms over my chest.

"Elijah. It's so good you're back. Let's get you checked out." He says cheekily. Grabbing a blue hospital gown and handing it to me. I frown as I look at the annoying garment.

"I'm fine. This isn't necessary." I grumble, taking it from him as he steps back and picks up his tablet. Writing something in it as I stand there.

"Elijah. Please do this for us. We're worried and..." My mate trails off as I look over at him. Waiting for him to find his words. "What he said in the tunnel. We just."

My eyes widen as I realize what he's talking about. I scowl at him as I step back. "I'm fine. I don't want to talk about that."

My nerves get the best of me as he steps forward and grabs my hands. I want to push him away, but the concern in his eyes keeps me in place.

"Elijah. Xander and I love you. We just want to make sure you are ok." He whispers. His pouty lips and glistening eyes are definitely foul play. Ugh.

"You were forcibly marked. You had blood magic used on you. You have bruises all over your body, and he said he.... he..." His words breaking as tears streamed down his cheeks. Causing my heart to break at the sight of my upset mate.

"I'm ok." I whisper as I wrap him up in a tight hug. Keeping the dark thoughts away as our bond grows warm.

"Elijah. As your doctor and a friend of the family. It's important to make sure there is no permanent damage." The doctors careful words pull my attention to get as I glance up. I'm not letting my mate go. Not yet. "Especially if you two are planning to have a family in the future."

My eyes widened at his careful words. The implications loud and clear. Even though he doesn't know exactly what has happened. So, with those words, I nod and pull away from my mate.

"Fine." I grumble, pulling my shirt over my head. Ignoring the concerned look on the docs face as he stares at my bruises.

"Alexi." The doctor calls out to my mate, pulling his attention away from my bruised body. His eyes return to normal as he turns his head to the small man. "I think it's best if you wait outside."

My mate growls loudly as he steps in front of me. Making me jump at his hostile reaction. I quickly grab him and pull him into my chest before he does something stupid.

"Calm down." I whisper in his ear, but he ignores me.

"Why? He's safe with me." His tone hard and aggressive. Causing the doctor to sigh and set his tablet down.
