Elijah - POV

The sound of flowing water and the feeling of the cold stones pressed into my back. The pain is the only thing keeping me distracted. Keeping me sane. Keeping me from completely falling apart.

This was supposed to be a happy occasion. A peaceful night filled with joy and comfort. Love and desire. Not fear and worry.

"Wake up." I whisper. My quiet words broke as the tears streamed from my eyes. My arms tightening around his small, naked body as I held him in my arms. Wiping the sweat off his pale face as I look him over. The sight tearing at my soul. "Please, wake up."

His eyes still closed, his body still burning to the touch. His muscles are still twitching, and his breathing is still erratic. He's been like this since he passed out. I immediately freaked out when he didn't wake up, and I found the cellphone he packed in his bag and called his father. The doctor told me to keep him covered, and they were on their way.

I stare at his face and frown as I watch his eyes move rapidly under his eyelids. Like he's having a dream. The sweating has been getting worse, but other than that, he doesn't seem to have any other issues. Except for the mark I left on his neck. It hasn't really healed. It's still slightly bleeding. Which is freaking me out.

...alm.

My body freezes at the sound of someone speaking. I look around and don't see anyone. My eyes darted around the various chambers that lead into and out of the cave. My hearing is not detecting any other sounds.

"Hello?" I call out. My eyes still focused on the dark tunnels and corridors. Watching for any movement or shadows.

"Alpha?" I call out again, wondering if it's the search party?

....ere ...afe.

My head perked up at the quiet words. My eyes frantically looking around, still not seeing anyone. My heart raced as the fear grew.

"Who are you? Show yourself!" I demand. Tugging Alex's body closer to me. My naked back scraped against the stone wall as I was only able to pull on my jeans. My dirty feel keeping my mate off the cold floor.

Then I hear a loud howl. My breathing picking up as the sound of paws hitting stone gets louder. I'm not sure who it is, so I stand up with Alex in my arms and ready myself to run. Watching one of the tunnels as the sounds get louder. Loud voices filling the air as a light grows closer.

"Elijah!"

My lips quivering as I hear my name being called. Followed by yips and the sound of shifting.

"In here. I'm in here, Alpha!" I scream. Stepping away from the wall and quickly walking to the tunnel. Just in time to see alpha Andre and Luna Lynn entering the pool room. Their worried faces lit by the moonlight as they catch sight of me.

"Oh, thank goddess." The Luna smiles as she walks up to me and reaches for Alex. I hesitated for a second, but I finally relent. Handing her son over as the tall Luna tucks his head under her chin. Scenting him like a newborn pup.

"Are you alright?" The alpha asks. Looking me over as I notice Alex's friend, Devon, walk into the room along with some other wolves. Including my father and one of the twin doctors.

"Yeah. I'm fine." I answer, my eyes focusing on my mate again. I watch as the doctor looks him over. A stethoscope wrapped around his neck, and he listens to his heartbeat.

"What happened?" The doctor asks as he pulls away from my mate. Pressing his hand against his forhead before looking back to me for answeres. I'm about to respond, but the alpha raises his hand and silences us both.
