Alexi - POV

The sound of heavy footsteps and loud murmuring echoed through the long corridors. Massive art pieces and decorative statues lined the walls and vaulted ceilings. Towering pillars made of stone and archways lined with intricate carvings decorated our path as the the vampire councilor, Darrius, gave us a personal tour.

We walked quietly behind him as he led us through the massive Gothic style castle. His families a ancestral home and the site of the upcoming trial. The calalist for the ensuing confrontation. Where I was expected to fight another elder and the witches planned a coup against one of their own covens.

All of these paths converging as all of the planning and preparing reaches its end. As the start of the trial is set for tomorrow at midnight. Antonys forces continue to amass in the caves located below the adjacent mountains. Just as our foces settle around the castle.

The attack on the outer settlements, drawing us here a day early. Requiring all of our forces and allies to make their way here. So, we find ourselves touring the castle while we wait for the others to arrive.

"And this is the grand courtyard." Darruis waves his hand as he draws our attention out the massive balcony. Waving his hand as we all take in the beautiful gardens and fountains. The grounds littered with Roman style statues and quaint seating areas. Long winding paths lined with exotic plants and flowers. All converging on a massive fountain made of a reddish marble.

"You have a beautiful home. Councilor." My grandfather comments. Folding his hands behind his back as he looks over the high walls of the castles exterior. Guard posts line each tower. The faint shimmer of a bright white barrier reflecting in the fading sunlight. "Your fortification look well thought out, as well."

"Yes. My clan takes its safety very seriously." Darrius confirms. Direction us away from the balcony and back down the massive corridor. "I do apologize that my father was unable to greet you. However, he will be joining us for dinner tonight."

My grandfather, father, and the others nod in response. Continuing the light conversation as we enter a large room that looks to be an office or a study. The walls lined with row upon row of books and manuscripts. Massive Persian rugs line the stone floors and long grey drapes cover the stained glass windows.

The scale of the everything holding my attention as imfoloow behind everyone. Keeping to myself as Devon left me earlier to setup my room. My father only allowing him to come with us to keep me company. So, he promised he would be back as soon as he was done.

My sightseeing was interrupted when a tall man entered the room. His tall, pale appearance confirming he was a vampire as he bowed to the councilor. His metallic eyes filled with respect as he handed Darrius a message before excusing himself.

I stood against the large fireplace. Admiring the portrait of man who looked a lot like Darrius that was hung above it. However, the man looked much younger and was seated in a regal looking chair. His skin was much lighter than Darrius as his eyes spoke of power. He was surrounded by three children and a tall beautiful woman.

"That's my father, Demarius." His voice catching me off guard as I quickly turned to him. His eyes calm and amused as I gave him a sheepish look. "The three children are myself and my two sisters. The woman behind us was my late mother."

I nod as I take in his words. Glancing at the family portrait one more more time before looking back at Jim. My eyes looking over his face briefly. My eyes widening in surprise when he starts laughing.

"I know. I've been told for centuries that I look nothing like my father." He laughs. His eyes scanning the portrait with a hint of amusement. But I could also see sadness flash by quickly before he schooled his feature.
