December, 2026 

The night before Juni's first birthday, a miracle happened.

"Juni's bedtime now," I say quietly, holding my tiny girl in my arms. "Mama loves you. Yes, yes she does. Mama loves you so much," I speak gently, about to put her to bed when —

"Ma - ma," squeaks Juni, and although its faint, she's definitely said it.

"Oh! Yes — Mama! That's me, mama," I repeat quietly, then immediately — "Harry! Harry get up here right now!" I shout, cautious to not disturb Juni's sleepy state, but desperate for him to witness this too.

He races in, concern scrawled across his face. "What is it? What's happened? Are you both okay?"

I turn to him with a huge smile. "She said mama, I'm certain of it. Wait — look," I encourage, repeating the word mama over and over again.

"Mama," she says again, but more definitive this time, and there's definitely no mistaking it this time.

Harry — bless his soul, has his phone out, recording, and I'm so glad we have it to look back on. I hadn't even thought about doing it.

"Oh, my little superstar," he says, and his voice is thick, clearly trying to fight the tears that want to leave his eyes. "She's a genius, Ken. Our little genius," he grinned, rubbing my lower back as I tried, and subsequently failed to stop the tears falling down my face.
