The time had come and Sakari was nearly floating on the clouds through the airport, uncharacteristically happy for 6:30 in the morning. The whole family had laughed upon seeing her sat in the living room at 4:45 with all of her bags packed, with a neck pillow on and sunglasses atop her freshly done braids.
Summer had been treating Sakari well so far, she'd done absolutely nothing but pick up and drop off her siblings from camp and daycare, spend time with her boyfriend and eat. Her group of friends had also met up in late June for a long weekend in Virginia Beach, which was entirely too much fun, she couldn't wait until they were back together again.
But for now, she'd enjoy her vacation with her feet kicked up in the sand.
"You ready for this flight, mama?" Khi asked, rubbing small circles into her thigh while she sipped an orange juice. "It's damn near 9 hours,"
"Hopefully I can just sleep, I've never flown that long before. Are you gonna sleep?" she replied, offering him a sip which he gladly accepted.
"I'on know, I don't sleep too good on flights, but we'll see. Im surprised they let you sit by me, I'm finna disgust your father the whole way there," he chuckled, making Kari shake her head with a laugh.
"Forget him, you're both going to disgust me. I'm the one who gotta sit in the row with yall," Semaja interjected, making the couple stifle laughter.
Sakari, Mekhi and Semaja were the only young ones on the trip and they already planned on all of the ways they'd be leaving their parents in the dust once they landed and made it to the resort. Maja had—albeit begrudgingly, agreed to give up her sister for a little while so that the couple could go on a date or two, but in return they promised to take her to the clubs with them and get her a drink or two.
A little while later, the two families were finally boarded, and the girls could barely contain their excitement. Semaja had begged for the aisle seat in case she had to 'make a quick escape', to which Sakari reminded her that there was no escape thousands of feet in the air, but conceded anyway, leaving the middle to Khi and the window to Kari.
After a somewhat delayed takeoff, Sakari got settled with her bag of nerds clusters and bottle of sprite, turning on her kindle, that she was recently gifted from her mom, to read before falling asleep. No more than two minutes later, she felt a head on her shoulder.
"What is it, Bubba?" she replied without looking up from her book.
"Can I have some?" he replied, hand already sneaking between her thighs where her unnecessarily large bag of candy rest.
"Mekhi!" she snapped, popping his hand. "I asked you if you wanted candy last night when we were at the damn store," Kari fussed.
"Okay and last night I didn't want none! I want some now!" he fussed back. "Baby I share everything with you, you can't give me a few pieces of candy?" he complained, looking dejected.
