It was June now, and summer was in full swing. Mekhi had wanted at least a month to get settled back in Texas before starting to work, so he was currently in the process of interviewing.
He had just gotten back from one, and was meeting his fiancée at her house to watch her while she put together first week of school outfits. She had landed a job already, he was so proud of her, and she was extremely excited. So excited, that she was modeling her full first week of outfits for Khi.
"So I decided one day a week I should give the girls corporate," she explained, walking across her bedroom and twirling a little, making Khi laugh. Most of her outfits were colorful, whimsical, and fun, mostly paired with some dunks or other sneakers she had in her closet. "Am I giving office siren?" she teased, looking over the rim of her glasses.
"I wish I knew what that meant," he chuckled. "But you do look like you work in somebody office, so I guess?"
"I'll take it," she nodded, disappearing into her closet again. "How was your interview, baby? You didn't tell me anything!"
"It was okay, I'm just trying to cover all my bases so in case the hospital I actually want don't call me, I'll have backups," he explained.
"I understand," she nodded, reappearing in some sweat shorts and one of his t-shirts that he could have sworn he stole back from her. "We have an apartment tour in the morning, you excited?" she cheesed, hopping in her bed with him, immediately cuddling up under his arm.
"Of course, where is this one again? We done seen so many I forgot what we have lined up," he asked, and Kari grabbed her phone to check her email to make sure she was telling him the right thing.
"This one is that cute two bedroom in Sugar Land," she replied, showing him the listing again.
"You wanna live in Sugar Land so bad," Khi teased, because half of the listings she chose were in Sugar Land.
"It's close to my school!" she laughed. "Of course, it's gonna depend on who offers you a job, but it would be nice to live close to work,"
Before they'd even graduated, Sakari had interviews lined up and ended up accepting a position as a Kindergarten teacher at Sugar Mill elementary. Khi always joked that she chose it because the name was cute, and Sakari argued back that the salary was cuter.
It was no secret that education wasn't the highest paying profession, and so Sakari was very selective about where she applied and where she'd decided to actually work. While she loved the profession, she wouldn't want to accept crumbs just to say that she had a job.
Mekhi had gone shopping with her every single time she had a new idea for her classroom, had helped her pick decorations and couldn't wait to go in and help her put everything together in August. Especially the cozy corner—he picked the rug and the pillows.
