fem!reader x mitsuya takashi
"and this one too!"
"y/n, i don't mean to kill the mood, but i'm not exactly made of money," mitsuya indicated, as you threw another dress on the pile of clothes he had draped over his forearm. despite the implication of his words, he knew he would've let you pile on many more items of clothing in order to keep seeing that bright smile on your face.
"don't worry, mitsuya-kun, this is the last one, i promise," you giggled, knowing he had a budget.
"why don't you try a few of them on?" he suggested, flipping through a few of them.
"okay!"
you headed towards the fitting room of the thrift shop you were at, taking the load of clothing off of mitsuya's hands.
as mikey's younger sister, you spent a lot of time around him and his gang friends. as of recently, you'd been spending a lot of time with mitsuya, one of toman's division captains-- also someone you'd grown up with. mikey had been ordering him to take you out a lot as of a few weeks ago, and you were really enjoying it. although mitsuya was technically hanging out with you against his will, he was beginning to enjoy it more than he expected.
as you slipped on the third item of clothing you'd collected-- a halter top, the zipper had gotten stuck and you were unable to reach it from how low it dipped behind your back. you turned around to glance at it in the mirror and realized you weren't gonna be able to reach it, no matter how hard you tried. at this, you sighed, feeling rather embarrassed to have to ask mitsuya for help.
before you could, he seemed to have noticed you taking a little longer than normal, and asked, "you okay in there?"
"yeah... i think my zipper's stuck. could you help me?" you answered, biting your bottom lip nervously.
"um... of course," he obliged reluctantly, feeling rather nervous about it himself. you waited for him to enter the small enclosed space, and when he finally came in, you noticed that his head was hung and his eyes were vastly averted. he closed the door behind him swiftly but kept his head down.
"are... you okay?" you asked him, slightly confused.
"y-yeah! of course, why?" he sputtered, and that's when you noticed that his eyes were also closed.
"how are you gonna help me with the zipper if your eyes are closed?" you inquired, raising an eyebrow at him.
"oh... right, sorry," he mumbled, but his eyes remained shut. you couldn't help thinking how cute he was.
"your eyes are still closed," you pointed out cautiously, "mitsuya, are you okay?"
"well... y-you're not wearing any, um..." he trailed off, unable to speak the words caught in his throat. you looked down, remembering that you were only in your underwear because you had tried on a dress prior to the halter top.
"ah... it's okay, i know you're not a creep, takashi," you let out a soft chuckle, appreciating the courtesy.
"still..." he opened his eyes but kept them glued to the floor.
"sometimes, it's hard to believe you're in a gang," you stated with a smile. without another word, or another glance, mitsuya fiddled with the zipper and fixed it quickly. a short awkward silence dawned between you and you bit the inside of your cheek anxiously.
"we should get going soon," he broke the silence, heading straight for the door, "wrap it up, 'kay?"
his words seemed cold and distant and suddenly, you felt guilty. as if you'd said something to change his mood.
after you'd tried on the rest of the outfits, you met mitsuya outside of the room and you began your journey back to your home. the walk home was about thirty minutes and for the first ten, it'd been completely silent between the two of you. there were a few times when you wanted to ask him what was wrong, but you decided against it.
instead you figured you'd just ask him a straight up question so you could get the answers you really wanted.
"can i ask you something?" you started, gripping the handles of the shopping bags you had at hand. he seemed slightly taken aback at the sudden sound of your voice, but turned to look at you anyway.
"sure."
"i'm mikey's younger sister... everybody knows that by now," you explained gradually, feeling your heart beat quicker by the second, "but... is that all you see me as?"
"what do you mean?" he wondered, sounding rather unnerved at her question. you kept your own eyes averted from him to avoid eye contact, even though you presumed he also wasn't looking at you.
"are we really friends?" you finally asked, the question flipping the atmosphere into a vulnerable state.
"of course we are," he replied, now turning his head to look at your pink-hued cheeks, but you refused to look at him just yet.
"but... you only hang out with me when mikey tells you to," you fessed, pointing out the slight obvious. you weren't expecting to fall for mitsuya, but it was kind of hard to when he was such a gentleman all the time. especially with the amount of time you'd been spending together. you just wanted to know if he was still doing this for mikey or if he actually liked being around you.
"is that really what you think?" he deadpanned, no emotion to be traced in his tone whatsoever. you shied away, feeling like an idiot for even bringing this up-- you could've let it go and just kept things the way they were. you liked being friends with him, even if your true feelings went deeper than that. you didn't want to lose him completely.
"forget it," you uttered, hoping he would just forget you said anything. your feet carried on, one in front of the other as you were gaining the entrance of your house.
but before you could reach the gate, you felt mitsuya grab your wrist and pull you back, "hey--"
you retracted back a step and fell into his arms as he pressed his lips to yours in a soft kiss. your eyes widened in astonishment, this being one of the things you least expected him to do. you'd always wondered what it'd feel like to kiss mitsuya takashi, but never did you think it'd feel this good. when he pulled away, you held the same astonished look you had on your face before your lips had met.
"w-why'd you do that?" you stuttered dumbfoundedly.
"why do you think?" he radicalized, a frustrated expression accompanying his features, "i really like you, y/n. getting to spend time with you is the best part of my day. but... mikey's my best friend. can't you understand why i'm nervous?"
a smirk crept up onto your face, ignoring the part where he emphasized you being his best friend's sister.
"you like me?" you beamed, watching his own face turn red, mirroring her expression.
"of course i do," he bashfully confessed, making you smile even wider.
"i like you too."
