a heavy silence had weighed the atmosphere for the past fifteen minutes.

you sat on mikey's bed-- draken sitting beside you on your left with his head in his hands, and mikey to your right hitting the same position. their silence spoke volumes and you were beginning to get agitated.

"okay, are we gonna talk about this or are you two just gonna keep staring off into the abyss?" you broke the silence, looking between your boyfriend and your best friend. neither of them made a sound.

"look, maybe it was a false positive, i mean, it could be too early to tell, right?" you continued, trying to strike up some sort of conversation so the topic was out in the open. but they remained silent-- again. you let out a groan of annoyance, standing up from your spot, glaring between them, "can one of you please say something?"

finally, draken raised his head and turned to look at the blonde boy next to him, "mikey, could you maybe give us a minute?"

with a look of understanding, mikey nodded and left the room, leaving you alone with draken. you sat back down next to him, keeping your gaze averted. but you were unable to keep this feeling of vulnerability from getting to you.

"draken," you muttered, biting the inside of your cheek.

"hm?"

"i'm scared," you admitted, your voice shallow. you weren't sure how to handle this and you knew draken didn't either. but right now, all you needed was his support.

he looked over at you with his dark, glistening eyes, softly saying, "hey... come here."

he pulled you into a hug, wrapping his arms around you gently as you tried your best not to break down in tears.

"everything's gonna be okay," he assured, rubbing circles on the small of your back, "whatever you choose to do... i'm right behind you, okay?"

he looked you in the eye, making sure you knew he was being sincere.

"thanks, ken-chin," you nodded. knowing he felt that way made you feel a lot better. he took your face into his hands and pressed a kiss to your forehead.

"i love you, no matter what," he told you, pulling you back into a hug.

"i love you too," you responded, embracing him tightly.

"let's wait a few days and take another test, how does that sound?" he suggested. it seemed as though he'd calmed down pretty quickly-- only making you realize how lucky you were to have him. you offered a soft smile and nodded in agreement.

a week later...

"three positives."

"wow."

"so you're really pregnant," mikey stated clearly, making it impossible for anyone to misunderstand.

"yeah," you breathed, feeling both excited and anxious. you sat down on the bed behind you, dropping your hands into your lap.

"does this mean we have to throw you a baby shower?" baji asked, lifting an eyebrow.

"no," you dryly answered, confused as to why he would even assume that; you'd never mentioned such a thing before. you were more than certain neither you or any of your friends had even been to one before.

"a baby shower's like a bachelorette party, right?" pah-chin questioned cluelessly.

"you know, i heard somewhere that they invented a curved pregnancy test so you don't pee on your hand," kazutora declared, adding no value to the conversation whatsoever.

"if you don't want pee on your hand, then you probably shouldn't have a baby," baji followed up. at this crass discourse, you sighed deeply, feeling a little overwhelmed.

"babies are gross."

"you're gross."

"okay, everybody shut up," you interjected, creating a silence amongst everybody that took up space in mikey's living room. you eyed your boyfriend with gritted teeth, "ken-chin, a word?"

"for sure," he nodded, standing up to move away from the group and talk in the hallway, "what's up?"

"do you really think it'd be such a good idea to bring a child into this world when our support system relies on a bunch of ex-gang members?" you explained thoroughly, rubbing the nape of your neck nervously.

"come on, y/n, you know they mean well," he tilted his head, defending their friends. but you knew that.

"i know, but they don't know anything about babies, and to be honest, neither do i, i-i mean what if we're not good enough? what if something bad happens, and there's nothing i can do about it, w-what if--"

"y/n, take a breath," he cut you off, placing his hands on your cheeks, "it's gonna be okay."

"how do you know that for sure?" you pushed, being the overthinker you are. but raising a child was no laughing matter. and you wanted to be as prepared as you could. you looked to draken for an answer, but before he could speak, you unintentionally tuned in to the conversation your peers were having.

"i wonder who they'll name the baby after," you heard mitsuya ponder.

"probably one of us if it's a boy," baji cockily answered.

"and what if it's a girl?" mitsuya countered.

"then i'll kick the ass of anyone who makes her cry," baji grumbled.

"yeah, me too," kazutora egged on. although they were speaking like barbarians, the meaning behind their words were making you feel a lot less overwhelmed-- happy, in fact.

"it kinda sucks that neither of them have parents," mikey added, indicating immediately that he was talking about you and draken. and it was true; both of you never had any parents to rely on.

"that just means we'll have to step up," mitsuya resolved with promise in his tone, "right boys?"

"hell yeah," you heard most of the boys chant.

everything you just heard had completely switched your view on the whole situation. you suddenly weren't sure why you felt so doubtful. i mean, sure, it wasn't exactly the ideal situation, but it was more than you could ever ask for.

and what mattered was that you had the support you needed.

you turned to look at draken and faintly smiled, finally realizing that everything really was gonna be okay.

"let's do this."
