"thanks for walking me home, you really didn't have to do that," you smiled at the peach-haired boy that stood before you at your front door.

"it was no sweat," he smiled back, shrugging it off, "hey, some of my friends are having a party tomorrow night, you should come."

"you want me to come?" you asked in slight disbelief, not anticipating such a question. you'd never been invited to a party before, so his words came to you as a shock.

"yeah, it'll be fun," he insisted, his smile reaching either end of his cheeks.

"sure, okay," you obliged nervously, already feeling yourself get excited.

"cool, i'll see you there," he spoke before stepping down from the porch, only to add, "oh, by the way, it's a beach party, so come in your bathing suit."

he mentioned that last part as he was leaving your house, giving you no time to protest in any way.

"see ya!" he called behind him before turning the corner and disappearing out of your sight. you let out an exasperated sigh as you entered your home, the words 'beach party' echoing within the corners of your mind. you'd just spent the night hanging out with smiley, a new friend you'd made at school a couple weeks ago.

you've hung out enough times now to know that you had a big crush on him, but you weren't planning on saying anything about it unless you were certain he felt the same way.

setting foot into your bedroom, you closed the door and found yourself momentarily standing before your mirror, staring at your body in silence. it was no secret you were slightly on the chubbier side and you weren't exactly confident about it, so this whole beach party idea was beginning to pick at your nerves. you dug through your dresser in search for your bathing suit, and once it was found, you put it on and stood in front of your mirror again.

you already felt uncomfortable wearing it in private, you couldn't imagine how you were gonna feel tomorrow if you wore it in front of a crowd of people.

almost immediately, you tore the bathing suit off of your body and threw on your pajamas, climbing into bed.

the next day, by the time school had ended, you'd found yourself back in your room, tearing through your clothes once more, trying to figure out what to wear. the weather was too hot for a sweater, so it'd look weird. and there was no way you were wearing a swim suit. so you'd decided on a simple t-shirt and one of your favourite plaid skirts.

to your surprise, smiley had offered to walk with you to party instead of meeting you there. it probably didn't mean much to him, but to you, it was everything. and it definitely made you less nervous.

the two of you talked the entire fifteen minutes it took to walk there and when you finally arrived, you were both greeted by a couple of his friends.

"hey, smiley, we were wondering where you were," a boy with lavender-colored hair patted him on the back with a broad smile on his face.

"here i am," he chuckled, dapping up a couple of the other boys before gesturing at you, "this is y/n, by the way. y/n, that's mitsuya, baji, mikey, and draken."

he pointed between them, introducing you to each and every one of them. his twin, angry, was also there, but you'd already met him; there was no introduction needed.

"nice to meet you, y/n," mitsuya grinned, his smile passing on to the boys he was surrounded by.

"you too," you replied politely.

as the night went on, you got to know smiley's friends and realized they were some of the nicest boys you'd ever met-- that was, aside from smiley himself. more people came as the sky grew darker and soon enough, it came that time of the night where people were drunkenly heading for the shore to have some fun in the water.

soon enough, it was just you and smiley sitting in the sand, watching his friends make complete fools of themselves in the water.

"hey, i'm gonna go join 'em, you wanna come?" he asked, standing up to pull his t-shirt over his head. you froze at the question, not knowing how to subtly tell him you were insecure... without telling him you were insecure.

"um... no, you go, i'm good here," you answered anxiously, darting your eyes away from him. you hoped he would just go and leave you be, not wanting to dampen his mood, but unfortunately, he persisted.

"are you sure? it'll be fun," he spoke, his expression shifting slightly. all of a sudden, you felt like you couldn't look at him.

"i just don't want to swim, okay?" you protested, your eyes now glued to the sand. you bit the inside of your cheek, feeling your heartbeat quicken.

"y/n, what's the matter?" he queried, noticing the change in your mood.

"nothing, um... you know what? it's getting kind of late, so i'm just gonna go home," you rambled, standing up and slinging your bag over your shoulder.

"what--?"

"i'll see you at school tomorrow," you cut him off, turning on your heel to head for the street. you arrived at the bus stop, sitting down on the bench and dropping your face into the palms of your hands.

god, i royally fucked that up, didn't i? why am i such a dumbass?

before you could criticize yourself any further, smiley appeared next to you, causing you to widen your eyes a little. he glanced at you with a blank expression before plopping himself down on the bench next to you.

"you know, the whole reason i invited you to this party was so we could spend time together," he explained softly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"in case you haven't noticed, i'm not exactly the party type," you remarked, biting your bottom lip tensely, "and i'm not exactly the skinny type either."

"so what?" he vocalized, causing you to finally turn your head to look him in the eye.

"i don't really... like the way i look, smiley," you confessed, feeling sheepish at the mere mention of your body image. you've never liked the way you look, and you'd never admitted that to someone before. your palms were getting clammy and you could feel your cheeks getting hot, as you tried to anticipate how he was gonna react.

"i like the way you look," he admitted casually, no hesitation.

his words made your stomach flutter. you sat there, lips parted, unable to utter a response. you never thought you'd hear such words, let alone from smiley.

"listen, we don't have to swim if you don't want to, and if you wanna get outta here, i'm right behind you," he continued sincerely, "i just want to be with you."

you couldn't help but grin, your whole body overflowing with giddiness. nobody had ever made you feel this way before. and you wanted to savor it. he briefly stood up and held his hand out for you to take, the look on his face making you believe he was being sincere. and he was. he was the most sincere boy you'd ever met in your entire life.

so you placed your hand in his and walked off with him, ready to spend yet another unforgettable night with him.
