male!reader x kurokawa izana

the cold metal bar struck your face once more, sending you straight into the concrete beneath you. blood continued to drip from your nose rapidly, and your vision was getting blurrier with every hit.

"tell me where she is!" izana repeated, his voice shrill and frustrated. you choked on the blood that begin to rise in your chest, coughing it up heinously.

"izana, please--" your raspy voice was cut off by yet another swing of the metal bar that izana held tightly in his right hand. your face was starting to feel numb at the amount of damage it'd taken in the past fifteen minutes, but you didn't care. the information you were withholding was worth the pain.

"i'll ask you again," he grumbled lowly, squatting down at eye-level with you, "where is she?"

he grabbed a fistful of your hair, pulling you up from the ground harshly to look him directly in the eye. your head was pounding and you were beginning to hear a faint ring. but through the wheezing and the struggling, you hopelessly stood your ground.

"i'm not gonna help you kill your sister," you managed, staring down the man who once claimed to love you.

izana was being ruthless-- in fact, you knew you had this coming. but after you'd been accidentally informed that izana intended to kill emma sano, you immediately knew you couldn't let it happen. that was why he wanted to refrain from telling you in the first place. he knew you'd never agree to it. so you secretly went to seek out the blonde girl, told her about what izana was planning and urged her to go into hiding.

you glanced at kakucho who was standing nearby with a look of despair on his face.

you knew he'd never try to defy izana, but you also knew he was the only other person in tenjiku who didn't believe in resorting to murder.

izana let go of your hair, sending a flying kick to the side of your head.

"izana, enough!" kakucho finally shouted, his voice echoing, "look, m-maybe he's right, maybe we should rethink this!"

"would you like to take his place, kakucho?" izana inquired loudly, a deafening silence following his question, "i didn't think so."

the snow-blonde man turned his attention back to you, his anger-filled expression prominent. but before he could land another hit, kakucho stepped in front of him and grabbed his arm.

"please..." he uttered shakily, his voice barely above a whisper. by now, you were almost unconscious, bleeding out of every orifice on your face. all you could hear was izana's heavy breathing and the faint stir of the warehouse's ceiling fan before everything went black.

you awoke in the comfort of your own bed, your head pounding and your entire body aching. confused and in pain, you sat up, wondering how you'd gotten here and what happened. through your window, you saw it was sunny, so you assumed it was sometime between morning and noon.

"you're awake," a familiar voice sounded from the doorway to your room, causing you to turn your head to see who it was.

"izana..."

memories of last night came rushing to your head in a tsunami, only worsening your headache. you instantly began to wonder if he had come back to execute more damage, but the thought subsided when he walked in and calmly sat on the edge of your bed. he wasn't wearing his tenjiku uniform-- only a beige coat and a pair of black pants.

"i... i'm sorry," he spoke hesitantly with his back facing you, refusing to regard you with even a sideward glance. you felt a pang of guilt hit you when you processed his apology. but you'd been over this before. ever since toman had entered the picture, your relationship had become an unhealthy cycle where he'd do something as bad as bludgeon you to near death, and then use his love to seek forgiveness.

you wanted to forgive him. you wanted to say, 'it's okay, i still love you.' but it's been said many times before. and even if you did still love him, you were sick of this behaviour. hell, you were unable to keep up with it. it was taking the life out of you.

"i can't do this anymore, izana," you admitted carelessly, not a trace of emotion to be found in your tone, "this obsession with mikey, with toman... it's consumed you. i'm sick of it... and i'm sick of you."

it hurt you to speak the truth, but what else was there to do? you knew you were going to keep loving him, and you knew he was going to keep hurting you.

so why did you have no intention of leaving?

"i know," he mumbled, his head now hung low, "i'm sorry, y/n."

you wanted the pain to stop. it hurt so much to love him, that you could feel pieces of yourself disappearing little by little. yet you were afraid to leave him. in fact, it was next to impossible to imagine. it was even harder to imagine when he'd apologize so sincerely. when he showed you how bad he felt for treating you this way. because you knew he loved you-- he really did.

just not enough.

and not in the right way.

"you know i love you, right?" he voiced, drawing you into the same cycle you hated to love repeating.

"i know."
