i feel so safe when i write this book

jeongguk played with his lighter, rough thumb dragging against the cog repeatedly. above the flame was his finger, not just there constantly but occasionally prancing through the flame. a soft breeze hit his sweaty forehead from the heat and it made him finally feel a little relaxed. it was now night time and the temperature had dropped thankfully.

"why are you just sat there?" taehyung's voice emerged from the end of the pathway as he walked closer. once his feet hit the wooden porch they created loud stepping noises which made jeongguk look up.

"am i not allowed to fucking sit where i want?" jeongguk spat at him way too harshly than usual, the tone made taehyung stop in his tracks and look at him with anger.

however, before taehyung could make any remark he noticed the puffiness in jeongguk's face and red eyes. he would've assumed he was high if it wasn't for how his face had puffed up and had some dry tear stains on the side.

so, even though exhausted from working long hours, he walked over to the boy and took a seat next to him with a soft smile.

"what's wrong?" taehyung asked, keeping his eyes on jeongguk who furrowed his eyebrows ready to say something nasty, "look! you kept annoying me when i was quiet to say what's wrong, so stop being a bitch and just say what's wrong."

"it's none of your fucking business," jeongguk sniffed and stared ahead at the dark woods, "unlike you, it isn't about having no friends or whatever."

that stung. taehyung's smile immediately fell and he stared down at his feet in distress. because it wasn't just him not having friends, it was because how he was labelled the weird kid in class so nobody would talk to him — it wasn't his fault, he was neglected so he showed up looking unapproachable.

"i'm just trying to help, you looked sad so-"

"i don't want your help taehyung, just go inside."

"no, because you're upset and-"

"god, just leave me alone!" jeongguk suddenly yelled unaware of how much frustration that was built up inside of him all these years was trying to seep out.

but, taehyung didn't leave but silently sat there. his heavy eyes were casted on jeongguk's teary ones, hurt and worry mixed in with them which suck anyone into a sad black hole if they were to peer in. constantly falling into misery with no escape.

after some moments passed and jeongguk began to calm down because it was a little harder to have a breakdown with someone watching you, he finally turned to taehyung with a fed up look.

"i really didn't need you here," jeongguk muttered, "b-"

"it's what friends do," taehyung shrugged.

"we are not friends." the brunette scoffed looking away from the latter who let his shoulders sink down rapidly.

taehyung chewed on his bottom lip and nodded merely, "oh, i thought you were gonna be my first ever real friend which would be really cool because of how we met. i have jimin as well but you'd be my first one even if you said we aren't."

the unusual tone in his voice made jeongguk snap his head towards him with furrowed eyebrows. taehyung was sad. he had been angry, a little upset, happy, drunk, on viagra, and everything in front of jeongguk but never genuinely sad about anything.

"i was just joking," jeongguk spoke in barely a whisper which he wasn't too sure why he was doing so.

"right." taehyung played with the dirt below his feet by digging his shoes into it with a frown, "so are you gonna tell me what's wrong? you don't have to, i was just worried."
