The cafeteria descended into chaos, tables crashing to the floor, students screaming and scrambling for safety. Niko could barely hear Tokoyami over the roar of the monstrous shadow that had taken form in the center of the room, its hulking mass swirling and stretching like an abyss that consumed the light around it.
Dark Shadow was supposed to be Tokoyami's partner, his greatest strength- but this... this was something else. The creature's usual shape had shifted into something more terrifying, more primal, with jagged, shadowy limbs thrashing unpredictably. Its glowing red eyes were filled with fury, and it showed no sign of recognizing Tokoyami as its master.
"Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami shouted, his voice strained, arms outstretched in a desperate attempt to rein it back under control. "Stand down!"
But the creature only roared louder, smashing through the nearest table, sending metal and food flying across the room.
Niko's heart pounded in her chest. She had never seen anything like this. It wasn't just Tokoyami struggling; it was as though Dark Shadow had completely turned on him. She glanced at him, his face contorted with shock and frustration. Whatever was happening, he wasn't prepared for it.
"We have to get everyone out of here!" Niko shouted over the chaos, her body tense and her quirk humming at the edge of her consciousness, ready to activate at a moment's notice.
Bakugou was already in action, blasting explosions toward the shadow beast, his teeth bared in frustration. "What the hell, Tokoyami?! Get your damn shadow under control before I blow it up!"
"Bakugou, stop!" Midoriya yelled, trying to corral the other students to safety. "We need to handle this carefully!"
Uraraka was floating tables and chairs out of the way, trying to clear a path for the students to escape. Kirishima had his hardened arms outstretched, standing in front of the younger students, shielding them from the shadow's rampage.
Niko's eyes darted to Tokoyami, who was frozen, torn between controlling the rampaging shadow and protecting his friends. His usual calm demeanor was cracking under the pressure. She knew he needed help.
Without thinking, she stretched out her hand, her quirk activating as the air around her vibrated. Telekinesis. She locked onto the thrashing limbs of Dark Shadow, gripping the creature in an invisible force. For a split second, she felt resistance, like trying to hold back a tidal wave, but she tightened her focus.
"I've got it!" she called to Tokoyami, her voice strained as she kept her hold on the rogue quirk. "But I can't keep this up forever!"
Tokoyami blinked, snapping back into focus. He rushed forward, trying to speak to his shadow, his hands trembling with effort. "Dark Shadow! It's me! Calm down!"
But the shadow roared again, more fiercely this time, shattering the telekinetic hold with a powerful swing of its arm. Niko stumbled back, feeling the pressure slip through her grip. Her breath caught as she realized just how unstable the creature had become.
"That's not gonna work," she muttered to herself, glancing at the destruction Dark Shadow had already caused. The upperclassmen were watching from the edge of the cafeteria, clearly shaken, their earlier smugness gone.
"Tokoyami-kun!" Niko shouted. "What's happening? Why can't you control it?"
Tokoyami's crimson eyes met hers, filled with uncertainty. "I don't know! This has never happened before... It's like-"
Before he could finish, Dark Shadow lunged forward, its massive arm swinging toward Niko. She barely had time to react, her telekinesis flaring to create a protective barrier just as the shadowy limb slammed into it. The force of the impact sent her skidding backward, her feet struggling for traction on the cafeteria floor.
Niko gritted her teeth. This was bad. Really bad.
"We need to regroup!" Midoriya called from across the room, his voice urgent. "Dark Shadow's out of control, but we can't just attack it! We have to calm it down!"
"Easier said than done!" Bakugou snarled, charging another explosion in his palm.
Niko turned to Tokoyami, who was standing, fists clenched, staring at his own quirk with a mixture of frustration and fear. She couldn't let him stand there, paralyzed. They needed to act-together.
She reached out, grabbing his wrist. "Tokoyami-kun, listen to me. It's still your quirk. You have to find a way to connect with it. I can hold it off for a bit, but you're the only one who can stop this!"
His eyes flickered with hesitation for a moment, but then he nodded, determination flickering in his gaze. "You're right. Dark Shadow is part of me. I'll stop this."
As Niko steeled herself for another surge of telekinetic energy, ready to contain Dark Shadow once again, a voice boomed from across the cafeteria.
"That's enough."
Everyone froze.
Aizawa-sensei stood at the entrance, his eyes glowing red as his quirk, Erasure, activated. Dark Shadow shuddered for a moment before its movements slowed and then stilled, shrinking back into the more familiar form at Tokoyami's side.
The silence was deafening. Everyone stood motionless, their hearts still racing.
Aizawa's eyes narrowed as he scanned the room. "You have a lot of explaining to do, Tokoyami."
