It was just another day at U.A. High—or at least, that's what it was supposed to be.
The students of Class 1-A filed onto the bus, excitement buzzing through the group as they prepared for their next big training session: a rescue simulation at the Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ). Niko found herself seated between Kirishima and Uraraka, the trio chatting about their expectations for the day.
"This is gonna be awesome!" Kirishima pumped his fist in the air. "I've been looking forward to this for days! I wonder what kind of rescue missions we'll get."
Uraraka smiled brightly. "Me too! I hope we get to practice saving people in disaster scenarios."
Niko chuckled at her friends' enthusiasm. "As long as I don't get stuck under falling rubble again, I'm happy."
Sitting in the seat behind them, Midoriya flipped through his hero notebook, muttering about different potential strategies. Meanwhile, Bakugo sat near the front of the bus, his arms crossed and an annoyed scowl plastered across his face as Kaminari and Sero joked around, making light of the training ahead.
As the bus rumbled forward, Niko noticed Tokoyami seated near the back, Dark Shadow hovering protectively behind him. Their eyes met for a brief moment, and Tokoyami gave her a silent nod. She smiled slightly, feeling that odd mix of warmth and tension build between them again, before turning back to her conversation with Kirishima and Uraraka.
The bus ride passed quickly, and before long, they arrived at the massive dome that housed the USJ. Aizawa-sensei stood at the front of the group as they disembarked, his usual monotone voice giving instructions.
"This will be a rescue mission simulation," he explained. "You'll be divided into teams, and your objective is to save civilians trapped in different disaster zones. Be prepared for anything."
Niko's eyes scanned the large structure ahead of them, her heart racing with anticipation. The entire facility looked like a real-world disaster zone—complete with collapsed buildings, flood zones, and more. It was a perfect place for them to test their rescue skills.
As they entered, Thirteen, the Pro Hero in charge of the USJ, welcomed them warmly. "Remember, your quirks can be dangerous if not used responsibly. Rescue work is about saving lives, not causing more damage. Let's do our best, everyone!"
---
The exercise was about to begin when a strange, heavy feeling filled the air. Niko couldn't quite place it, but something felt... off. She glanced around, catching Tokoyami's eye once again. He seemed on edge too, his hand resting on the shadowy form of Dark Shadow as if ready to summon it at a moment's notice.
Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted. A swirling black portal appeared in the center of the facility, growing larger and larger by the second. From it stepped a man with pale hands covering his face and body, followed by a dark, misty figure that seemed to bend the very space around it.
Shigaraki Tomura.
Aizawa's voice was sharp and immediate. "Stay back, all of you. This isn't part of the simulation."
The realization hit Niko like a ton of bricks. This wasn't training—this was real. Villains had invaded the USJ, and they were here to do damage.
Chaos erupted as the villains poured from the portal. Aizawa-sensei immediately leapt into action, using his Erasure Quirk to fight off the attackers. thirteen moved to protect the students, her black hole quirk at the ready, but it wasn't enough to stop the villains from spreading throughout the facility.
Niko's breath caught in her throat as the class scattered. Kirishima and Bakugo charged headfirst into the fray, while Iida sprinted towards the exit to call for backup. Uraraka and Asui worked together to shield some of the weaker students, with Mineta nervously following behind.
"Stay together!" Midoriya shouted, trying to rally the others. "We can't get separated!"
But it was too late. Kurogiri's misty form appeared in front of them, and before Niko could react, she was swallowed by darkness.
---
When the world came back into focus, Niko found herself in a crumbling urban zone. Shattered buildings and broken roads surrounded her, and for a moment, panic set in. Where was everyone? She scanned the area, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Over here!"
Niko turned to see Kirishima waving her over, standing with Kaminari and Asui near a pile of rubble. "We got separated, but we need to stick together! Villains are everywhere!"
Niko nodded, quickly joining them. Asui, always calm under pressure, surveyed the area with her sharp, frog-like eyes. "We need to find the others and regroup."
Just as they began to move, a loud crash echoed from behind them. A massive, hulking figure emerged from the shadows—one of the villains. Its form was monstrous, with bulging muscles and a menacing grin.
Kirishima stepped forward, hardening his skin. "I'll take him on! You guys find the others!"
"Be careful!" Niko called after him, but before they could go any further, Kaminari grabbed her arm.
"Sakura-chan you'll need to use your telekinesis to help block the exit! That thing's too strong, we can't let it follow us."
Niko nodded, focusing her quirk. Her hands glowed with energy as she used her telekinesis to lift a section of fallen debris, forming a temporary barricade. The villain roared in frustration as Kirishima launched himself at it, buying them enough time to escape deeper into the zone.
---
Elsewhere, Midoriya, Uraraka, and Tokoyami found themselves trapped in a different area of the USJ—the shipwreck zone, surrounded by water. Tokoyami, ever composed in the face of danger, summoned Dark Shadow to guard their flank as Midoriya tried to come up with a plan.
"We need to get to higher ground," Midoriya said, scanning the area for any sign of safety. "If we can regroup with the others, we'll have a better chance."
Uraraka, floating above the water with her quirk, nodded in agreement. "I can scout ahead. Maybe I'll find a way out."
Tokoyami's gaze flickered over to Niko's direction, though she was far out of sight by now. "We need to protect each other. Stay vigilant."
---
As the chaos continued to unfold, Niko and her group pushed forward, narrowly avoiding villains and working together to navigate the collapsing terrain. She couldn't help but think of Tokoyami and the others—were they okay? She had to believe they were.
Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed from above. "Niko-chan! Up here!"
She looked up to see Tokoyami and Midoriya standing on a nearby rooftop, Dark Shadow hovering protectively around them. Relief flooded through her, but there was no time to relax. More villains were closing in, and their next battle was only beginning.
