The air in the warehouse crackled with tension, the shadows shifting as the masked attackers advanced. Niko's breath steadied, her mind honing in on the fight ahead. She could feel Dabi's heat at her side, his blue flames casting ghostly silhouettes against the crumbling walls.
"Ready, little sister?" Dabi's voice was low, a mixture of challenge and protectiveness.
Niko nodded, her hands glowing with a soft yellow aura as she activated her telekinesis. "Stay close. We'll get through this."
The first wave of enemies lunged forward. Niko raised her hand, and a stack of rusted crates flew into the air, crashing into the attackers and scattering them. Dabi moved with fluid precision, blue flames whipping from his hands and forcing their enemies back.
A masked figure shot forward, their weapon aimed at Niko. She reacted instantly, using her telekinesis to twist the metal barrel of the gun, rendering it useless. She followed up with a powerful telekinetic push, sending the attacker sprawling against the wall.
Dabi was a blur of motion beside her, his flames controlled and precise. He didn't aim to kill—only to incapacitate. It was a subtle difference, but it spoke volumes to Niko. Despite his reputation, Dabi was holding back, for her sake.
"On your left!" Niko shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos.
Dabi spun, a wall of blue fire erupting between him and another attacker. The flames danced, creating a barrier that forced their enemies to reconsider their approach. Niko took advantage of the pause, lifting debris and launching it with pinpoint accuracy.
The attackers began to regroup, their numbers still overwhelming. Niko's breathing grew heavier, her telekinesisd raining her energy
Dabi noticed Niko's labored breathing, his expression tightening. "Don't push yourself too hard," he murmured, his voice barely audible over the crackling flames.
"I'm fine," Niko insisted, but a tremor in her hands betrayed her exhaustion. She forced herself to focus, reaching out with her telekinesis to yank weapons from the attackers' hands, disarming them with swift, calculated movements.
More masked figures emerged from the shadows, their presence a tide threatening to overwhelm them. Dabi's flames flared hotter, forming a protective circle around them. "We need to get out of here," he muttered. "They're not just ordinary thugs."
Niko nodded, her instincts screaming that something was wrong. "There's a back exit. If we can break through—"
Her sentence was cut off as a blast erupted from above, the roof crumbling. Niko's telekinesis flared, forming a shield that deflected the debris, but the strain made her knees buckle. Dabi stepped in front of her, his flames incinerating a wave of shrapnel.
"Enough of this!" A voice boomed from the darkness, commanding and cold. A figure stepped forward, their silhouette sharp against the dim light. They wore a dark coat, their face obscured by a metallic mask that distorted their voice. "You're not supposed to be here, Todoroki."
Dabi's jaw tightened, blue flames licking at his fingertips. "Who the hell are you?"
The figure ignored him, their focus shifting to Niko. "And you—you're a disappointment. The agency said you'd be alone. Looks like we'll have to adjust our plans."
Niko's blood ran cold. "The agency? You mean—"
Before she could finish, the attackers moved again. This time, their movements were coordinated, a practiced assault. Dabi's flames lashed out, but the enemies wore heat-resistant suits, their defenses strong. Niko pushed back with her telekinesis, but every move drained her reserves.
The masked leader raised a hand, and a pulse of energy shot toward them. Dabi reacted first, shoving Niko aside as the blast hit him square in the chest. He crashed into the wall, a groan escaping his lips.
"No!" Niko's telekinesis flared with renewed vigor, the yellow aura brightening as she sent a wave of force that knocked the attackers back. She scrambled to Dabi's side, her hands trembling as she reached for him.
"Dabi, are you okay?"
He coughed, a wisp of smoke escaping his lips. "I've had worse," he rasped, but his movements were sluggish.
The leader took a step forward, their voice filled with contempt. "Enough of this. Bring them in."
Niko's eyes narrowed. She wouldn't let them take her—or Dabi. She reached deep, pulling at the last reserves of her strength. The yellow aura around her intensified, and suddenly, the metal beams above began to creak. The entire structure groaned, the ceiling shifting.
"What are you doing?!" the leader barked, but it was too late.
With a final push, Niko unleashed a wave of telekinetic force. The roof buckled, and debris rained down. The attackers scattered, their formation breaking. Dust filled the air, and in the chaos, Niko grabbed Dabi's arm, pulling him to his feet.
"Move!" she urged.
Dabi stumbled but found his footing, his flames sparking weakly. Together, they dashed through the crumbling warehouse, weaving through the maze of debris. Niko used her telekinesis to clear a path, every pulse of power a strain on her exhausted body.
They burst through a side door, the cold air biting against their skin. Niko's vision blurred, her steps faltering, but Dabi's grip tightened around her wrist, guiding her forward.
Behind them, the warehouse crumbled, the sounds of shouting fading into the distance. They didn't stop until they reached the safety of a darkened alley, both of them collapsing against the brick wall.
Dabi's breathing was ragged, his flames reduced to flickering embers. "You...you saved me."
Niko managed a weak smile, her vision swimming. "You saved me first."
They sat in silence, the world spinning around them. Eventually, Dabi's voice broke the quiet. "You need to get back to your agency. They set you up. Whoever that was...they're not done."
Niko's heart pounded, the realization sinking in. "But...Tokoyami. Keigo. If the agency is compromised—"
Dabi shook his head. "I don't know how deep it goes. But you can't trust anyone until you find out."
Niko clenched her fists, the weight of betrayal heavy in her chest. "Then I'll find out. I'll figure out who did this."
Dabi's lips curled into a faint smirk, pride flickering in his expression. "That's my little sister."
The moment hung between them, fragile but real. Niko reached into her pocket, pulling out her phone. Her fingers trembled as she typed a message to Tokoyami, her mind racing with a thousand possibilities.
Niko: I need to talk. Alone. Something's wrong with the agency.
She hit send, the message a small lifeline in the chaos. Dabi shifted beside her, his expression unreadable. "What's the plan, hero?"
Niko's eyes hardened, her resolve solidifying. "We find the truth. And if the agency is compromised...we burn it to the ground."
Dabi's smirk widened, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Now that's more like it."
As they sat in the shadows, the city breathing around them, Niko knew that this was only the beginning. And with Dabi by her side—even if only for now—she was ready for whatever came next.
