Wooyoung woke up to the soft light filtering through his window, casting a warm glow across his room. He stretched lazily, letting out a contented sigh as he took a moment to appreciate the serenity of the early morning. With tousled hair and a sleepy smile, he was often compared to a cat—adorable, rare, and someone very mischievous.
As he made his way to the kitchen, his thoughts drifted to the day ahead. Wooyoung loved his life at the university, studying chemistry and experimenting with compounds that often led to colorful reactions and delightful scents. But there was one thing that overshadowed his days: San.
"G'morning, Wooyoung!" Mingi greeted cheerfully as he entered the living room, his physics textbooks stacked haphazardly in his arms. "You look extra cute today."
Wooyoung grinned, playfully batting his eyelashes. "You mean I always look cute, right?"
Mingi rolled his eyes, but a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Sure, but you'll need that charm today, especially with the San situation," he winked.
Wooyoung's expression soured at the mention of San's name. "Ugh, don't remind me. I have to see his smug face in class today." he pouted. But he quickly changed the topic. "Mingi, you're even prettier. Your hair's so shiny today," he said, lightly ruffling it. There we go. Holy fuck, Mingi was absolutely beautiful. They truly were just two pretty best friends.
Mingi chuckled, adjusting his very much unnecessary glasses. "Thank you, Wooyoung. You know, it might not be so bad. Just think of him as a project to experiment on."
"An experiment?" Wooyoung raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his eyes. "More like a toxic reaction waiting to happen. I don't want to end up with burns."
After a quick breakfast filled with teasing and laughter, the two friends headed out to campus. The autumn air was crisp, leaves swirling in vibrant colors around them. Wooyoung greeted everyone they passed, his infectious smile lighting up faces. It was a talent of his—making friends with anyone, whether they were human or not.
As they approached the chemistry building, Wooyoung's heart sank at the sight of San leaning against the wall, arms crossed and an insufferable smirk plastered on his face. It was like clockwork; every day began with an unwelcome reminder of his rival's presence.
"Look who it is," San called out, eyes glinting with mischief. "The little kitten who thinks he owns the place."
Wooyoung's cheeks flushed, a mix of annoyance and embarrassment flooding through him. "And look who it is—an annoying little cat who thinks he's clever."
San chuckled, his laughter ringing through the crisp air. "You know, if you spent less time being cute and more time studying, you might actually pass this semester."
"Like you're one to talk," Wooyoung shot back, unable to hide his grin. "At least I'm not known for my constant failures."
Mingi watched the exchange with mild amusement, knowing that beneath the barbs, there was a strange bond forming—a rivalry laced with a hint of something more.
As they moved inside the lecture hall, Wooyoung took a deep breath, steeling himself for another day of pretending he didn't mind San's constant presence. The two were like oil and water, constantly clashing, yet there was something oddly magnetic about their dynamic. Wooyoung found himself wishing he could just enjoy his classes without the burden of dealing with San's irritating comments.
Throughout the lecture, Wooyoung's mind wandered. He focused on the intricate details of molecular structures, doodling cute cats in the margins of his notebook. He often wondered why he had to deal with San every single day. He was a kind soul, full of warmth and love, and he wanted to avoid the negativity that seemed to follow San like a shadow.
As the class ended, Wooyoung felt a mix of relief and dread. He gathered his things, preparing for another round of their ridiculous banter as he walked out.
"Hey, Wooyoung!" San called, his voice cutting through the chatter of students. "Are you planning on sleeping through the next class too?"
"Maybe if I'm lucky, I won't have to deal with you," Wooyoung retorted, a playful glint in his eyes despite the annoyance brewing inside him.
As he stepped into the bustling hallway, surrounded by laughter and conversations, Wooyoung couldn't help but wonder if there was more to San than just the irritating facade he projected. Maybe, just maybe, there was a reason they were constantly thrown together—a reason he had yet to understand.
With a shake of his head, Wooyoung pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on finding Mingi and avoiding San for the rest of the day. But deep down, he knew this was only the beginning of something that would unravel in ways he couldn't yet imagine.
