San leaned back in his seat, tapping his pen against his notebook in frustration. The biology lecture droned on, but his mind was elsewhere—specifically on Wooyoung. That annoying, infuriating, undeniably cute Wooyoung. Goddamn it.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Yunho whispered, a knowing grin spreading across his face. San shot him a glare, though it lacked any real heat. Yunho was too endearing, with his puppy-like appearance and a charm that drew people in, even if he preferred to stay in the background.
"Just thinking about how much I hate that guy," San muttered, crossing his arms. "You know, the cute little chemistry major with the charming smile and those ridiculously adorable cat-like features."
Yunho chuckled softly, clearly amused. "You sound a bit obsessed. Are you sure you don't like him?"
"Don't be ridiculous," San snapped, though the heat creeping up his cheeks betrayed him. "I hate him. He's infuriatingly lovable. It's like he knows exactly how to push my buttons."
"Clearly, he does," Yunho said with a smirk. "You've been at each other's throats since day one. But I mean, come on. You have to admit he's cute."
San sighed dramatically, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, he is." Long black hair, a feisty attitude, and an unmistakable charm. "It's infuriating! I can't fucking focus on anything when he's around."
Yunho leaned closer, his expression a mix of mischief and curiosity. "So, you think he's cute, but you also hate him. Sounds like classic rivalry behavior. It's almost like you two should just get it over with and date."
San shot him a look that could wither plants. "Date? With him? Absolutely not! We're competitors. It's my mission to be better than him in everything. I won't let him distract me."
Yunho shrugged, his smile unshaken. "Whatever helps you sleep at night. Just don't pretend you're not curious about him. It's okay to admit it; you're not the only one who thinks he's adorable."
"Adorable?" San echoed, the word leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. "I refuse to let his charm sway me. He's too good at everything, and I can't stand it. I mean, come on—everyone loves him! It's like he's a magnet for affection. Girls, guys, pets—you name it."
Yunho chuckled, glancing around the classroom. "Maybe it's time you learned how to deal with competition without losing your cool. You might find it less stressful."
"Easier said than done," San replied, his tone sharper than intended. "He's always there, and it drives me insane. He's like a constant reminder that I have to be better, and I hate that."
Yunho's expression softened, understanding flashing in his eyes. "It sounds more like jealousy than hate, to be honest. Maybe you're just scared that you won't measure up."
"Jealousy? I'm not jealous!" San exclaimed, though his heart raced at the thought. "I just want to be the best in my field, and Wooyoung seems to have this effortless way of charming everyone. It's infuriating!"
As the lecture continued, San struggled to concentrate. His thoughts kept drifting back to Wooyoung, and he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to their rivalry than mere competition. Wooyoung's long black hair, that playful grin, and the way he interacted with people—there was something captivating about him that drove San up the wall.
Eventually, the lecture came to an end, and students began to file out. San lingered, catching Yunho's eye. "What's your plan after class?" he asked, curious about his friend's plans.
"I was thinking of heading to the library to study for a bit. You know, the usual," Yunho replied. "Why? Are you up for joining?"
"Maybe," San said, glancing at the door where Wooyoung had just exited. "I'll think about it."
"Just remember, you don't have to keep running away from your feelings," Yunho said, a knowing smile on his face.
San rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, yeah. I'll figure it out, okay?"
As he stepped out of the lecture hall, the bustling campus enveloped him, students chatting and laughing as they made their way to their next classes. San could still picture Wooyoung's bright smile and the way he effortlessly made friends with everyone around him. It irritated him to no end, yet beneath that irritation, there was something else—something he was unwilling to acknowledge.
With a determined huff, San decided that today would be different. He wouldn't let Wooyoung's charm affect him. He'd focus on his studies and show everyone, including Wooyoung, that he was just as capable and deserving of attention.
As he walked toward the biology building, San's thoughts lingered on his rival, and the feeling that maybe—just maybe—there was more to their rivalry than mere competition.
