To him, the fair was a measly waste of time. The rides served no purpose, barely providing him any entertainment. The Ferris wheel, seemingly reaching clouds? Boring. The Roller coaster, promising those with hardened stomachs and wills a ride they've never felt before? Boring. The horror house that dared challengers that once they'd enter their doors, experience hell itself? False. A cheap, poor, pitiful imitation of the "Hell" they attempted to recreate with tattered strips of cloth and cardboard.

He wondered why a fair was needed. He laughed. Humans are such simple creatures. Even the tiniest thrills will give them goosebumps or shake them to the core. The only pleasurable activity he found endearing was sex.

So...

Y/n, for the simple reason he was "bored," left the scene, leaving Denji alone with his "second" bodyguard to keep him company.

Denji noted this but ignored it, acknowledging it with a simple grumble down his throat. 'Typical Y/n,' he thought before watching Nayuta play on the merry-go-round.

Y/n stalked elsewhere, gazing at other people's expressions in the fair. First, he went to the roller coaster that reached a fair height to give the gut a run for its money. They were smiling. Next, he went to a small circus--where people watched a jester do silly acts. They were laughing. Then, he went to the food court, kids juggling with their toys, yelling with a profound grin while running around. Giggling. He examined them with a neutral line on his lips and gave it a thought.

Why are they happy?

There wasn't anything particularly exciting about this fair. Most rides provided small adrenaline rushes just to spark a feel in the audience, but even that was temporary. He frowned. Then abruptly, a child bumped into his leg and stumbled on her rear.

"Owie..." she said, pouting.

"You good?" Y/n asked, doing nothing while the child eventually got back up. The child was wearing a yellow jumpsuit and small flower shoes. She looked no older than six.

"Yep!" she beamed. Then for a moment, she stared at him for a long time. Humming with her tiny index on her chin. "You're pretty..."

Y/n rolled his eyes and scoffed lightly before responding "Thanks ki--"

"Sad."

In a blink, his entire expression was unreadable except for his brows furrowing. "...Huh?"

"You look pretty sad!"

Y/n fell on one knee to get at eye level with the child. "Really~? Why's that?"

"I dunno, you just look like it! Your hands are in your pocket, you're slouching a bit, your eyes look around weirdly, and you're standing still! And most of all...! You aren't smiling!" she replied, a bright smile still evident. "Are you okay?"

Y/n was mildly taken aback. "You're an observant one, aren't you?"

"Yup!"

"Whaddya wanna be when you're all grown up?"

"A lawyer!"

He giggled. "Congrats, you possess the same trait as 99 percent of other lawyers."

She suddenly held her head down, pouting again. "Guh, I dunno numbers..."

"Lawyers don't need numbers."

Her beam returned in a moment. "Really?!"

"Uh huuuh~"
