CHAPTER TEN
LORELEI ALEXIS SPEARS

I’ve only gotten detention a few times in my years here as a witch at Hogwarts. Every single time Colby and I were stupid enough to accidentally stay out past curfew. Never did I think I would land myself in detention with Snape, of all professors, for slapping some sense into a supremacist moron.

The few hours I would have to spend in detention, which I’m ultimately told would be supervised by Filch, would be utter torture. In my opinion, it was pointless, because nothing could convince me that Theodore Nott did not deserve that slap in the face.

When I told Colby what had happened, he generously, but stupidly offered to get himself in trouble just for the purpose that I wouldn’t be alone in detention. I appreciated it. But I saw no need for him to get in more trouble than he already was in, or what trouble he would get himself into in the future. After all, with Nott and all his friends around, that felt nothing but pure hatred for Colby and I, who knew what was to come.

When I told him that I would be fine, he smiled. But he hated leaving me alone. Maybe that’s something else I liked about Colby LeStrange, he didn’t want me to go into things alone.

The constant teasing that surrounded Colby and I’s relationship sometimes made me wonder. Sometimes I would stay up at night thinking about us. Him and I. What if we were ever more than friends? I wondered if he thought about it too. I love him, but not like that. People didn’t seem to understand that.

Besides... I couldn’t imagine ever liking anyone else but Cedric. That made me excited as I remembered that he was taking me out just this weekend. After all, it was only two more days till Saturday.

I walked down the hall after classes for the day. Although this time, my destination was not my dorm, or any place where me and Colby would usually hang out. It was Professor Snape's classroom, for detention.

I was still mad that I had to go, considering I didn't think I really did anything wrong. But if I didn't go, I would just get in even more trouble and instead of spending two weeks in detention, it would be four.

Finally, I reached the classroom, in which I opened the door with a sigh.

No one else was in the room, except for Filch who was lounging around in Snape's chair with his feet up on the desk. He was almost asleep. But he was quickly awoken when I walked in.

He shot up from his seat.

“Ah. Miss Spears. So glad you are here, take a seat.” He said plainly in that raspy voice.

I did. I took a seat in the second row closest to the front.

Usually in detention, we would be assigned some sort of work to make up for the misbehavior that landed us here. That would either be cleaning some sort of room, usually the kitchen. Or a project that would be assigned, usually done in partners for whatever reason.

I figured since I was the only one in the room, the assignment would not be given out.

“Mr. Filch.” I said politely “May I ask what I'm going to be doing here for the next weeks?”

“I will discuss that when the other students get here.”

“Other students?”
