CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
LORELEI ALEXIS SPEARSI spent all morning getting ready. At least twenty minutes while Colby helped me pick out an outfit, nodding politely everytime I changed. When I changed for the fifth time, it was settled. I was wearing blue jean shorts that stopped right above my knees. A white shirt that had small blue flowers over it. The shirt was cut short, ribbed down the middle, and tied into a neat bow at the bottom. The sleeves were slightly puffed, but not too much to take the causality out of it. Over top I layered a small black vest, and I paired it with a set of matching blue butterfly earrings.
I did my hair in at least ten different styles, before deciding on two dutch braids tied at the ends with blue ribbons. Colby helped tie the ends since it was difficult for me to reach.
I looked at myself repeatedly in the mirror. “Do I look okay? Is my hair messed up? What about my shirt? Do you think it's too fancy?”
“Rory. You look fine!” Colby assured for at least the one hundredth time that morning.
“Yeah” Luna added, cuddling herself into her blanket. “You look great!”
“Are you guys sure? I mean–”
“Rory. Enough. You look beautiful and I'm sure Cedric will love it.” Colby said and put my bag over my shoulder, “now take your purse and go out to the common room. I'm sure he's been waiting for at least twenty minutes.” He said with a slight chuckle.
“Yeah, yeah.” I rolled my eyes playfully, fixing my bag that Colby threw over my shoulder, “what are you guys gonna do?”
“Well” Colby scratched the back of his head, and then he turned to Luna. “Do you want to go to Hogsmeade or something? Maybe just to help get your mind off things?”
I was glad Colby would have something to do while I was gone. And I was glad he was doing something with another one of my friends who was going through a bad breakup. Colby had a tendency to easily cheer people up, especially when he tried. Maybe this would be good for Luna. Maybe this would be good for both of them.
Luna nodded, “yeah. I think that might make me feel better. Thanks Colby.”
Colby smiled, “No problem, I'm here to help” he plopped down on my already neatly made bed, putting his hands behind him in order to prop himself up. “You better get going, Rory”
“Oh yeah! Right!” I jumped excitedly, and then I headed towards the door. “Thanks for all your help, I would be trying on my twentieth outfit right about now if you two weren't here. Oh and–”
Colby gave me one of those looks that told me to stop ranting and babbling and to finally just focus on the task at hand and get going.
“Right. Bye. And you two have fun! I'll see you later!” I waved quickly, and then headed out of the Ravenclaw dormitories and down to the common room, where Cedric would be waiting for me outside the door.
I was nervous. And excited. The feelings got at least one hundred times more intense when I slipped out of the doors to the common room and saw him standing there. My heart beated even faster than it was before. It beat faster than I ever thought it could.
There he stood, leaning against the wall wearing a pair of blue jeans, a plain gray hoodie, and overtop his signature black sleeved and yellow bodied Quidditch sweater that had the Hufflepuff House crest adorned on the front left pocket. Revealed was a gold chain hanging loosely around his neck. He looked good in gold.
