"In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine."
– Maya Angelou
The first thing that Orm sees that fine Monday morning is the attorney walking confidently towards the main entrance of their building. Ling was in her corporate attire and was wearing a spec while busy reading a piece of paper on her hand. It looks like she just parked her car and just got out based on the windswept hair that the attorney was sporting. It made her gulp hard. If you look closely, she seems like a very serious persona and has that all-knowing aura surrounding her, but what people don't know is how the attorney looked like a lost puppy when sick. Orm smiled as she reminisced about what happened yesterday.
It seems like the attorney felt her coming presence, so she looked up from what she was reading and broke into a wide grin upon seeing her. The jerk, she walked towards her, closing their distance.
"Good morning." Ling leaned into her to whisper.
She glared at her and just entered the elevator, the lawyer in tow.
"Do you come here often?" The attorney awkwardly asked. It's quiet, and they have no one with them. The only sound they hear is the soft music of the elevator. Maybe this is her effort to break the silence, and Orm almost laughed at how random the Attorney is.
"I literally work here. What do you mean?"
It wasn't intentional, but there was a smile tugging on her lips while she stared at Ling, who just shrugged and acted innocent. The jerk is also smiling at her as if she is proud of herself for making her smile.
"We have exactly 30 seconds until we get to our floor. Wanna use them for something fun?" The Attorney asked her much to her surprise.
Orm frowned at the Lawyer's question. What kind of nonsense is she thinking? She just rolled her eyes.
“Stop it. Are you feeling okay now?” She asked. Last night, she really wanted to message the Attorney on Instagram, but she was the one refusing to accept whatever Ling was offering her. She still has some pride left, somehow.
“Yes. Thank you. How’s your sleep?” Ling asked softly. The atmosphere is just so light today. It's not like before when she almost always wanted to kick the Attorney in the neck, though it's still understandable that it's a bit awkward, at least. Little by little, whatever it is that they have is progressing.
Before she could say anything, the elevator opened, and her ex, who immediately brightened upon seeing her, walked in. A shift inside was palpable.
“N’Orm, i’ve been messaging you for weeks now, when are we going to have the dinner date that you promised?” The Accountant did not even bother to greet them a Good morning nor acknowledge the presence of the Attorney.
She saw the Attorney raise an eyebrow at what she heard while looking at her. It happened for only a split second, something that you could easily miss once you blink, but she also saw how Ling quietly cleared her throat and returned her gaze to the elevator door.
