i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
-E.E Cummings
"You're in my way. Move." Orm said through gritted teeth.
Her knuckles were white from her nonstop clenching while seated in the conference room for almost a two-hour meeting, and when her father introduced Ling to the board, she was visibly seething in anger, rolling her eyes every minute or so. What did her father say? He's glad that one of the top lawyers in the country is part of the Company? What's worse is that the board's admiration for the lawyer was clearly restrained, but they could do nothing with their adoring eyes especially when Ling took the lead in the discussion, skillfully navigating the two companies with the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding, a formal agreement between two parties that outlines plans for their common goal. She heard some of board member compliments the Lawyer as Ling could definitely speak well and was an effective communicator, making sure that all of them understand the meaning behind the complex words and legal terms.
But for Orm, She's irritated because that woman is acting smart again and was clearly showing off in front of her mom, who was grinning like she's so proud of Lingling Kwong. Does she need to remind her mom that it is her that's her daughter and not the lawyer?
Her father on the other hand just keeps nodding, it looks like he already talked to Ling prior to the meeting regarding the Merger and Acquisition. The Food department of the two companies agreed to pursue a Concentric type of merger since both are operating in the same market, but what impressed everyone the most was how Ling pointed out that it was the other company that was benefiting more from the merger by highlighting the cost reductions as they share operational efficiencies and resources. However, Sethachon has a wider market, thus demanding a higher percentage of income, which is what her father wanted. Both parties agreed to resume the meeting next week to finalize the deal after reviewing all the documents presented.
The lawyer just stared at her and then moved aside to let her pass, "Why do you keep on blocking the road?" She whispered to herself in anger as she walked out of the conference room but not until she heard Ling asking,
"Have you eaten yet?"
What kind of question is that? Orm thought. The meeting started at nine in the morning and ended around eleven, so where will she find time to eat? Obviously not yet. She shoot daggers her. It's up to the Lawyer what she thinks about her, but her blood has been boiling for two straight hours, and if she can't calm down, she might just end up pulling the attorney's hair. She only sneered at Ling and went straight to her Father's office where her mom is surely waiting for her.
She opened the door brusquely and dramatically walked in to sit in front of her mother. "What is happening, mom?"
"What happened?" Her mother asked, acting innocently as if she had no idea what she was asking about. Orm felt a bit of fear because she had been rolling her eyes in the conference room for a while now, and she was worried that her eyes might not return to normal. It's scary, but she rolled her eyes towards her mother again.
