Yulia woke up feeling the warmth of the sun filtering through the curtains. The house was eerily quiet, her men nowhere to be found. They hadn't mentioned being gone today, but it didn't bother her too much. She liked her moments of solitude sometimes, especially when it meant she could do something indulgent—like lounging by the pool without interruption.
Skipping both breakfast and lunch, she decided to enjoy the summer afternoon, slipping into a red bikini she had bought ages ago but never had the confidence to wear. The vibrant color was a stark contrast against her pale skin, and as she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror, a strange surge of confidence washed over her.
She grabbed a book from Leonardo's library and made her way to the pool, laying on one of the chairs. The warmth of the sun on her skin, the gentle breeze, and the soothing quiet made it easy to get lost in her book.
But then, her phone chimed, breaking the peaceful silence.
Her heart raced as she reached for it, glancing at the screen.
Unknown Number: Now I see why they all took an interest in you
Attached was a single image.
She opened the message, her blood running cold as she saw a photo of herself—right now, lying by the pool in the exact position she was in. Her heart pounded in her chest as she sat up quickly, looking around in a panic.
There was no one. She scanned the area, eyes darting around the pool and the surrounding grounds. The familiar security guards patrolled the perimeter like they always did, and Jupiter was quietly lounging under his favorite tree, oblivious to any sense of danger.
But the photo had been taken moments ago. Someone was watching her.
"Jupiter," Yulia called out, her voice trembling as the large Great Dane immediately responded, standing up and trotting over to her side, his presence comforting despite the unease tightening in her chest. She quickly gathered her things, her mind racing with fear and confusion.
Who was this? How had they taken that picture? And more importantly, what did they want?
Her phone chimed again. She hesitated but opened it, her hands trembling slightly.
Unknown Number: I will put a bullet between that stupid mutt's head.
Yulia felt her blood boil with rage, fear replaced by a burning fury. Who would threaten Jupiter? The thought of someone threatening an animal so innocent, so loyal, made her sick to her stomach. The dog had been nothing but sweet, protective of her even though he didn't fully trust her yet.
She clenched her fists, her heart pounding not from fear, but from anger. Whoever this was, they had crossed a line. She couldn't just stand here, exposed and vulnerable. She needed to get inside, find safety, and figure out what was going on.
