"I may have my share of responsibility like Count Deruth but you too, I'm not even an adult yet and I can understand that. On the other hand, you blame everyone except you, it might be time to question yourself." Basen hadn't even continued to shout, he was far too angry for that.
Eric was going to open his mouth once again but Amiru stopped him.
"I'm sorry, young master Basen but you're right. We shouldn't have moved away from him when he changed but rather tried to talk to him. We were too young at the time to realize it and the announcement of this disease made us realize how much we should have paid attention to him." She apologized, Gilbert did too, only Eric still seemed to be fuming in his corner.
Amiru frowned in annoyance, Eric was only lucky that they were in the presence of other people.
"Eric." His tone clearly said that he had no interest in saying something stupid, luckily he understood.
"*sigh* I'm sorry, Amiru is right."
Basen could clearly see that he was not happy about having to apologize but it will do for now.
"Can you tell us more about what you know? Maybe about these two incidents and the ones the doctor told you, Eric is right about that. Anemia is not a disease that comes like that."
Basen agreed to do so, Amiru and Gilbert seemed to be really interested in Cale. He wasn't going to bring up Eric's case.
Once they were aware of everything, well everything Basen knew, Eric had finally calmed down and looked guilty like the other two nobles.
"Like I said earlier we all have some responsibility for his condition, we just have to do our best now."
"You are right young master, I am truly sorry for my behavior rather... I was worried." Eric truly apologized this time, Basen was satisfied and accepted it.
They then continued to talk about Cale, his vulgar behavior, Basen's assumptions about it and the interaction with Venion on the way to the capital, where Cale had intentionally insulted himself. They finally agreed with Basen that they needed to talk to Cale.
"Can we see him?" Eric asked but Basen was hesitant.
"I'm not sure if that's a good idea, he barely woke up this morning and he still seemed very confused but I promise you that as soon as he wakes up I'll let you know."
They all three agreed and left, Basen then returned to the room.
"How is he?" He asked Ron as soon as he walked through the door.
"He woke up a few minutes ago to give him those medicines and he fell asleep again."
Basen nodded and sat down, to continue monitoring him.
A week later, the priest with them had declared that Cale was finally fully recovered, much to the relief of the young master. The last few days had been quite difficult for him, even if he didn't like to do anything, he didn't like being taken care of and treated like a fragile thing.
Basen, without Cale knowing, had warned the nobles of the northeast that they could come see him. Over the last few days, Basen had also explained to his brother everything he had missed, that his friends had come to see him but without telling him about their argument, their father's words and the new rumors about him. Cale seemed to barely react to all this, he was looking at something in the room rather than listening to him.
"Cale?"
"Ah yes, sorry." Basen looked at the direction his brother was staring at, it was towards the two kittens.
"I already told you we took care of them, they seemed to be quite hungry by the way."
Cale and the kittens exchanged a knowing look. He was sure that the two children had shared their food with the little dragon since they were in the capital. The dragon didn't really have anything left to hunt in the city.
"Maybe you should rest more before the event at the palace."
"No thanks, I've been doing it for quite a long time." He especially wanted to escape the worried looks of people on him especially Ron and Basen. They had barely moved from the room since he woke up the first time, it was quite scary.
He got up from his bed to go to the kittens to pick them up from the floor and take them in his arms.
"I want to take a walk around town. " He announced to them before walking towards the door and opening it when he came across a frantic Choi han with a Lock on his back and a Rosalyn with them. Of course he had recognized them all, he held back a sigh and ushered them into the room saying goodbye to these few hours of freedom alone.
Basen like Ron was surprised by swordsman coming back with unknown people with him but they didn't say anything, they waited to see what Cale was going to do.
"I did what you told me but... but there was an incident finally several and I didn't know what to do so... so..."
"You did well, calm down." He said putting a hand on the man's shoulder waiting for him to calm down a little.
"I'll help you okay, the boy is not in danger." He could see Choi han nodded and everyone looked at him curiously.
Cale noticed that Rosalyn had been silent since she came back and was watching the kittens, or rather an empty corner next to the kittens. He sighed, as he thought the dragon was with them in the room. He had to play with his mana to attract Rosalyn, he had to be curious to be able to feel mana all around her.
"Stop it." The phrase spoken to no one in particular made everyone turn their heads towards him, even Rosalyn.
"To who-" Basen was about to ask the question everyone wanted to know but was cut off by Cale pointing at the boy.
"You'll see about that later, I'll answer all your questions but later." He was sure he would regret that sentence in the near future...
