Sooyoung sits in front of me, wordless for a moment as she lets what she's hearing internalise. The drinks that we'd ordered sit on the table before us, relatively untouched.

"So Jisoo transported you back home to, what, avoid talking about her past?"

"Basically."

I stir my drink, my other hand fidgeting with the key worn around my neck.

"Wait, wait, I need a little time to process all this." She takes a sip from her own drink. "So basically, Blackpink Mansion did have ghosts in it, four of them, and they threatened you into tagging along with us, in search of this King. Stop me if I'm wrong."

"Seems about right." Her oversimplification ticks me off just a little.

"And from what I'm hearing, you started developing feelings for Jisoo?"

A pit forms in my stomach, manifesting itself as a dead chuckle.

"Well, at that point, I didn't know what I was feeling," I admit. "I couldn't explain the sinking feeling I got sometimes when I looked at her. Like some sort of severed connection, like a flower cut from its stem. Or something like that." I scoffed lightly at the way I'd worded it.

"Did you tell Wendy about all this?"

My tongue buries itself into my cheek. "I couldn't, not when Jisoo threatened her safety if I were to tell anyone."

"I doubt that was the only reason," Sooyoung pries. "From what I've heard so far, it seems that the walls were starting to break between you two. That one time she lashed out at you in the tent bar, she seemed to feel bad and try to make up for it."

I shrug, giving her a bitter chuckle. The door of the restaurant opens with a jingle, and the staff give another Christmas greeting.

"You say that right after I told you about her literally pushing me away."

"Right, sorry, keep going."
