Captain Lucas Morani arrived on his homeland after five years of serving his country, fighting in Iraq. As the plane touched down, a wave of emotion washed over him. The moment he stepped onto the tarmac, the familiar scent of home hit him—freshly cut grass mingled with the salty air. He took a deep breath, soaking in the freedom he had fought so hard to protect.

His heart raced with anticipation as he thought of the woman waiting for him. Memories of their late-night conversations, shared dreams, and laughter echoed in his mind, fueling his eagerness to reunite. She had been his anchor, the thought of her keeping him grounded during the long, grueling days in the desert. Lucas couldn’t wait to hold her in his arms, to feel the warmth of her embrace after so many lonely nights.

As he stepped into the bustling airport, his gaze swept across the crowd, searching for her familiar face. Families embraced, tears of joy streaming down their cheeks, but his heart sank as he didn’t see her. He pushed through the throngs of people, anxiety creeping in with each passing moment. Where was she?

Finally, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Pulling it out, he saw a text that made his stomach drop: *“I’m sorry, Lucas. I’ve moved on. I’m with your brother now.”*

The words felt like a physical blow, shattering the joy of his return. Betrayal pierced through him as he read and reread the message, disbelief twisting into rage. How could she? How could his brother? The very foundation of his world crumbled around him, leaving him reeling with anger and sorrow.

Lucas turned on his heel, the weight of heartbreak heavy on his shoulders as he walked away from the memories they had built together. He had sacrificed everything for this moment, only to return to an empty home and a life that felt irrevocably changed. The excitement that had filled him moments ago was replaced with a storm of emotions, a fire that threatened to consume him whole.

Lucas drove to his brother’s house, anger boiling inside him with every mile he covered. The familiar streets felt foreign as memories of happier times flooded his mind. He clenched the steering wheel, a mixture of rage and heartbreak surging through him. How could they do this to him? How could she betray him in the worst way possible?

Arriving at his brother's house, Lucas parked abruptly and stormed up to the front door. His heart raced as he raised his fist and knocked with force, each pound echoing his frustration. Moments later, the door swung open, and there she stood—his ex-girlfriend, the woman he had dreamed of for years.

But what hurt the most was the unmistakable roundness of her belly, a stark reminder of the betrayal. She was pregnant. **Pregnant with his brother's child.**

The sight of her, once a source of warmth and love, now twisted into something painful and foreign. Lucas's breath caught in his throat as he took in her wide eyes, filled with shock and guilt. The silence between them was heavy, thick with unspoken words.

“Lucas,” she started, her voice trembling, but he couldn’t bear to hear her excuses.

“Save it,” he snapped, his voice laced with fury. “You did this while I was fighting for our country? You think I can just overlook that?”

Her expression faltered, guilt washing over her features. “I—”

“Did you think I wouldn’t find out?” he interrupted, his heart pounding in his ears. “You were supposed to be waiting for me. I came home for you. I fought for you!”

Tears brimmed in her eyes, but he felt no pity. All he could see was the life they could have had, now shattered.

“Lucas, I’m sorry. It just happened. I never meant for any of this to—”
