As Lucas and Bella pulled into the parking lot of their favorite burger joint, the familiar scent of grilled meat and fries wafted through the air, making their mouths water. The restaurant had become a staple for them, a place where they could unwind and enjoy each other’s company away from the stresses of work.

Inside, the diner buzzed with chatter, the walls adorned with vintage memorabilia and framed photos of past customers. Lucas led Bella to their usual booth, a cozy spot tucked in the corner, providing just the right amount of privacy. The booth’s worn leather seats felt familiar as they slid in, their knees brushing against each other.

“Are you ready for the best burger of your life?” Lucas grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Bella laughed, “You know it! I’ve been dreaming about this all week.” She picked up the menu, scanning the options, though she already knew what she wanted.

“Do you think they’ll let us order two of everything again?” Lucas teased, raising an eyebrow. “I wouldn’t mind putting away a double bacon cheeseburger with extra fries.”

“Only if you plan to share,” Bella replied playfully, setting the menu down. “I might need your help if I get too full.”

As they placed their order, Lucas leaned back in his seat, watching Bella animatedly describe her favorite burger. The way her eyes lit up brought a smile to his face; he loved seeing her so animated and passionate.

“Do you want to share a milkshake?” he asked, his voice lowering slightly as he leaned closer.

Bella nodded enthusiastically. “Yes! Chocolate, please. You know how I feel about it.”

Their food arrived shortly after, the burgers steaming and fries piled high on the plate. They dug in, savoring the first bites as flavors exploded in their mouths.

“This is amazing,” Bella said, her eyes rolling back in bliss. “I could eat this every day.”

“Careful what you wish for,” Lucas replied with a smirk. “I might take you here every day if it means getting to see that happy face.”

As they continued to eat, the conversation flowed easily between them. They shared stories about their childhoods, laughed about embarrassing moments, and spoke about their dreams for the future. The atmosphere around them faded away as they became engrossed in each other, their laughter echoing through the restaurant.

“You know,” Lucas said, wiping a stray bit of ketchup from his lips, “I’ve been thinking about what you said the other day about going through life together, no matter the ups and downs.”

Bella’s expression softened. “I meant every word, Lucas. I want to build something real with you. You make me feel safe, and I can’t imagine going through the tough times without you by my side.”

Lucas reached across the table, taking her hand in his, their fingers entwined. “I feel the same way. After everything I’ve been through, I didn’t think I’d find someone who could understand me and still want to be with me. But here we are.”

Bella smiled, her heart swelling with affection. “I’m really glad we found each other.”

Just then, the door swung open, and a familiar figure walked in—Sergeant Jenna. Bella’s heart sank a little as she recognized the determination on Jenna’s face. She couldn’t help but feel a flicker of tension at the sight of her.

“Looks like someone else had the same idea for lunch,” Lucas said, oblivious to Bella’s discomfort.

“Yeah,” Bella replied, forcing a smile. “Let’s just hope she doesn’t come over here.”
