The sun filtered through the trees as Bella and Lucas strolled hand in hand, enjoying the warmth of the morning. The peaceful atmosphere was a stark contrast to the whirlwind of emotions they had navigated in recent weeks. Bella felt a sense of contentment she hadn’t experienced in a long time, but that tranquility was soon interrupted by the familiar buzz of her phone.

Bella glanced down and saw Leo’s name flashing on the screen. She raised an eyebrow, curious about what he needed. “Hold on a second,” she said, releasing Lucas’s hand to answer the call.

“Hey, Leo! What’s up?” she asked, trying to keep her tone light despite the curiosity gnawing at her.

“Bella, I need your expertise on a new case. It’s urgent,” Leo replied, his voice serious. “There’s been a string of suspicious deaths in a local community, and I think there might be foul play involved. We could use your skills.”

Bella felt a familiar rush of adrenaline at the thought of getting back to work, but her heart also sank a little at the prospect of being pulled away from this peaceful moment with Lucas. “Sure, I can help. What do you need me to do?”

“I’ll fill you in when you get here. Just bring your forensic gear,” Leo instructed. “And if you can, bring Lucas along. I think having him on board could be beneficial.”

Bella glanced at Lucas, who was watching her with a curious expression. “Lucas wants to help, too,” she said, nodding in his direction.

“Great! I’ll see you both soon,” Leo replied before hanging up.

Bella pocketed her phone and turned to Lucas, her expression a mix of excitement and regret. “Looks like we have to go back to work. Leo needs our help on a case.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, a playful smile dancing on his lips. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily. I want to be there for you, especially if it means helping out on a case.”

She felt a flutter of warmth in her chest at his enthusiasm. “You really want to dive into the chaos of my world?”

“Absolutely,” he replied, squeezing her hand reassuringly. “I’m all in, Bella. Besides, I want to see you in action.”

With that, they turned and headed back to the car, their hands intertwined once more. Bella felt a renewed sense of purpose and excitement as they drove toward the station. She loved that Lucas was willing to step into her world, to support her in both her personal and professional life.

Upon arriving at the station, they were greeted by Leo, who led them to the conference room. A whiteboard filled with information about the suspicious deaths was set up, and a sense of urgency hung in the air.

“Thanks for coming,” Leo said, glancing between Bella and Lucas. “We’ve got a lot to go over.”

Bella took a deep breath, mentally shifting gears as she focused on the case. “What do we know so far?”

As Leo began outlining the details, Bella felt Lucas’s supportive presence beside her. Together, they were ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead, their bond growing stronger with every moment they shared—both in and out of the field.

Leo led Bella and Lucas down the dimly lit hallway toward the morgue. The atmosphere was thick with tension as they approached the cold, sterile room where the bodies awaited examination. Bella felt her heart quicken, a mixture of anticipation and determination flooding her senses.

“Alright, this is where it gets serious,” Leo said as he pushed open the heavy door, revealing the stark, clinical environment of the morgue. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, illuminating the rows of stainless steel tables.
