As the days passed, the three of us—Dean, Viola, and me—fell into a comfortable routine. We sat side by side in class, trying to pay attention, but mostly laughing and talking through it all. The usual chaos, however, came from Dean—who, as always, seemed to forget his pens and pencils.

"Psst..Glory, can I borrow a pen?" Dean whispered during the morning class , his voice almost a little too casual as he turned to me.

I raised an eyebrow. "Again, Dean? You *really* need to start bringing your own stuff to class."

Dean shot me a sheepish grin. "I promise I'll bring it back this time."

I glanced at Viola, who was sitting on the other side of me, shaking her head with a knowing look. "You’re giving him another one, aren't you?" she teased, pulling out a full pencil case from her bag, filled with every kind of stationery imaginable.

"Well, I can't exactly say no, can I?" I sighed, pulling out a pen from my bag and handing it to Dean.

Viola couldn't help but laugh. "Gloria, you're too soft on him. You've given him like three pens this week already."

As I took a glance at Dean ,he chuckled and gave a little shrug.

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at my lips.

Viola, ever the one to be prepared for anything, looked at Dean and then at me. "Honestly, you need to start charging him rent for these pens. I have enough stationery in my bag to stock a small office supply store, and he's always coming to you."

Dean joined "True, true. But Gloria's got the good stuff. It’s a matter of quality, not quantity."

"He's got you there," Viola said, leaning back in her chair. "I guess the real question is, why do you keep *giving* him your pens?"

I shrugged. "Because if I don’t, he’ll just take from me anyways-

"You like it  don't ya?" Viola stopped me

Dean slipped out of the classroom to drink water, as he often does, but today, he returned holding the principal's hand like they were walking in together as friends. The principal, clearly not amused, turned to the teacher and asked, “Who let him out?” The teacher fumbled, clearly caught off guard. “He said he was just going to drink water, but I didn’t know… he’d be coming back with you.” The principal gave Dean a disappointed look.Dean just shrugged with that familiar smirk on his face, like he was untouchable.

I felt a pang of empathy for him, though—I always did. I couldn’t always help but think that there had to be something more going on with him than just his love for causing chaos.

When the principal left, the teacher let out a long sigh and muttered, “Dean, back to your seat.” Dean walked back to his spot and slid into his chair with that smug grin, like he was proud of whatever stunt he'd just pulled. He leaned over to me, still holding that cocky air, and whispered, “The principal’s just my friend, you know.” I stared at him, genuinely baffled. “Really?” I asked. “You go out to drink water, and you come back with him like it’s normal? What kind of trouble did you get into this time?”

Dean just laughed it off, not seeming to care at all. I couldn’t help but feel frustrated. “Why do you have to do this? Why can’t you just... I don’t know, stay out of trouble for once?” I sighed, a mix of concern and confusion in my voice.
