Animosity means basically hatred. I googled it 🙂: 'synonyms for hatred beginning with a'         :)

The annual fest was the highlight of the school year, a whirlwind of excitement and anticipation that swept through the halls like a gust of wind. It was a chance to showcase everyone's talents on the grand stage of the school auditorium.

"Bitch, you simply must give your name for the dance!" Viola exclaimed, her enthusiasm bordering on theatrical as she practically dragged me towards the sign-up sheet.

I resisted, my nerves already fraying at the edges. "Viola, I'm not sure I'm cut out for this," I protested weakly, my voice lost in the chaos of the backstage commotion.

"Nonsense, Gurl! You can totally do it , and you're positively radiant!" Viola insisted, her determination unwavering as she thrust the pen into my trembling hand.

"Fuck it then." With a resigned sigh, I scrawled my name onto the list, silently praying that my feet would cooperate when the moment of truth arrived.

As the day of the annual fest dawned, I couldn't shake the fluttering sensation in my stomach. Dressed in my costume and filled with a mix of excitement and trepidation, I ventured out into the bustling chaos of the backstage area. It was a whirlwind of activity, with performers hurriedly practicing their routines and teachers scurrying about, ensuring everything was in place for the big event.

As I stood nervously awaiting my turn to perform, Viola sidled up beside me, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Hey, Glow, you'll never guess who I just spotted on the other side of the stage," Viola teased, unable to contain her excitement.

My heart skipped a beat as I turned to face Viola. "Who?"

Viola made a poker face "oh nevermind ..I'll tell ya later"

"VIOLA" i whisper screamed "Bitch, you better tell me. Or is it Andrew?" I cooed.

Viola leaned in "He's here too but the one I'm talkin about is...Your one..., her voice barely above a whisper. "It's Dean."

"Dean?" I repeated, feeling a rush of emotions surge within me. I tried my best to ignore how she said 'Your one'. "What's he doin here?"

Viola smirked knowingly. "Oh, you won't believe it. He's dressed as a cop for an upcoming dance!"

My eyes widened in disbelief. "A COP!? I fell silent suddenly. That's...unexpected."

Viola chuckled at my flustered reaction. "I know, right? And here you are, dressed to impress, while he's out there in uniform."

I sighed, trying to play it cool despite the fluttering in my stomach. "Well, I guess he's always had a flair for the dramatic."

Viola nudged me playfully. "Come on, Gloria, just admit it. You've got a soft spot for Officer Dean, don't you?"

I feigned indignation, though deep down, I knew she was right. "Officer Dean? Eww...Me? No way! I just...I just.no way, Viola." I stammered.

Viola rolled her eyes in mock disbelief. "Sure, keep telling yourself that. But if I catch you swooning over his handcuffs later, don't say I didn't warn you!"

Oh, the irony of young love on the dance floor.

We laughed as some of our friends called out to her from the other side of the stage. "Violaa..Can you come over please? Need some help over here."

Viola looked at me n grinned as i nodded n then she left. I sat there observing all the ruckus that was happening all over the place.

And then, amidst the chaos, I spotted Ray. Ray Kinsell and his friend. This was it—the moment I had been waiting for, a chance to catch his eye and make an impression. With a newfound sense of confidence, I strode purposefully past him, executing a small catwalk in an attempt to command his attention.

But instead of the admiring glance I had hoped for, Ray's expression twisted into one of a bitter reminder of my own perceived in-adequacies. In that moment, my self-respect began to smolder, consumed by the flames of untold rejection and humiliation.

As I retreated backstage, a wave of bitterness washed over me. The budding affection I had harbored for Ray morphed into something altogether different—a potent mixture of resentment and disdain. How could someone I had admired so deeply be capable of such heartlessness?

With a heavy heart, I resigned myself to the  conclusion.

  I started hating Ray Kinsell.

It was a bitter pill to swallow, but in the harsh light of reality, there was no denying the truth.

"Gloria aa ... wait"

I turn around to see him comin towards me.
