When i got home, nothing had changed . If anything , my dad seemed angrier than ever. He tormented me , saying he didn't want a junkie for a son and that i was worthless . His words hurt me a lot , and eventually i gave up on writing. Why continue when all he ever did was tear me down? My sister grew to hate me more too . My mom often defended me , which made my sister resent me more .
My sister was the perfect child- everything a parent could want . She didn't smoke , didn't drink , and is academically excellent. Yet despite of all of that . I was still my mom's favourite . Whenever we fought my mom would take my side . I could feel my sister hate me more every time, and in a way, i couldn't blame her.
The only comfort i had left was my grandmother . She's always been the dearest person in my heart , and no matter what , no matter how bad things got , she was there for me. She and my mom were the only ones who truly loved me , who loved me for who i was .
My grandma is around 70 now, though no one knows for sure . She grew up in a strict household , the youngest of twelve children. Her parents didn't allow her to study because they needed her to watch her brothers and sisters . When she became adult, she started living out the youth she never had - wearing short dresses, going to pubs . Her parents called her a disgrace , but she was just trying to reclaim the teenage years she never had .It was a pub where she met my grandfather . They fell in love quickly, and within a year . They got married.
My grandpa was an alcoholic , he used to beat her , both physically and verbally with his hurtful words , leaving her depressed . Not long after they married , she gave birth to my mom , then soon after to my aunt .
Despite becoming a father , my grandfather never stopped drinking , and the abuse only continued. My mom witnessed it all . Despite how he treated her my mom was his favourite , though she always felt torn apart between loving her father or hating how he treated my grandma . One night , after coming home drunk at 4 AM , the granny had enough . She locked the door on him. Furious, he forced his way in , and beat her until she was covered with bruises and blood.
Things finally calmed down when my grandpa stopped drinking and became more religious. But as his life seemed to turn around, he was diagnosed with cancer . He died not long after . I can still remember my grandmother's tears . Despite everything he had put her through she loved him . It was tragic , loving someone so deeply , even when they had caused so much suffering and pain
