Nico was getting used to a lot of new things lately, but nothing quite compared to the feel of Kevin's belly beneath his hands. He touched it as often as Kevin would let him, which, luckily for Nico, was all the time. At first, it had been subtle-just a hand on Kevin's stomach, the both of them waiting for some sign that things were progressing. But now, Nico could feel the small changes every time he pressed his hand against the growing curve.
It was still early, the bump only just beginning to show, but it was enough for Nico to notice. And he loved it. There was something incredible about knowing that their baby was in there, growing. It made everything feel more real, more tangible.
Kevin was leaning back on the couch, his legs stretched out, a pillow under his head. Nico sat beside him, his hand resting on Kevin's belly, absentmindedly rubbing small circles. He couldn't help it-he wanted to feel every shift, every slight change.
"Anything different today?" Nico asked softly, glancing down at Kevin with a small smile.
Kevin chuckled, shaking his head. "You ask that every day."
"And I'll keep asking until something changes," Nico replied, leaning down to press a kiss against Kevin's stomach.
Kevin rolled his eyes but didn't move Nico's hand away. In fact, Kevin had grown used to Nico touching his belly, almost relying on it now. He liked it, too. It felt grounding, reassuring, like Nico was just as invested in this as he was.
They'd unofficially moved into Nico's flat not long after the pregnancy reveal. It had happened naturally-Kevin staying over more and more until one night turned into two, then three, and then neither of them really saw a point in Kevin going home. So now, Nico got to cuddle Kevin every night, which was more of a gift than Nico had expected.
Kevin slept on his side mostly, his back against Nico's chest, and Nico took full advantage of it. His arms would wrap around Kevin, his hands inevitably finding their way to Kevin's stomach, just resting there as if they belonged. It had become their new normal, and Nico couldn't imagine it any other way.
Tonight was no different. Kevin was curled up beside him, wearing one of Nico's old shirts that was far too big but looked perfect on him. The sleeves hung loosely around Kevin's wrists, and the hem almost reached his thighs, but it only made Nico smile wider.
"You look ridiculous," Nico teased, nuzzling his nose into Kevin's hair.
"Shut up," Kevin muttered, though he didn't move away. "It's comfortable."
Nico grinned, pulling Kevin closer. "You look good in my clothes."
Kevin huffed, but the hint of a smile tugged at his lips. Nico could feel it, the way Kevin relaxed against him, content and safe. And Nico loved every second of it. There was something about seeing Kevin in his oversized clothes, knowing that Kevin was here, with him, theirs now, that made everything feel right.
Of course, there were also the mood swings.
At first, Nico hadn't been sure what to expect. He'd heard stories, of course, but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely. Kevin's emotions could flip like a switch-one moment he was calm and laughing, and the next, he was on the verge of tears or snapping at Nico over the smallest thing.
But Nico didn't mind. In fact, he loved it.
It gave him a chance to take care of Kevin, to show just how much he was there for him. Whenever Kevin got worked up, Nico would be there, soothing him, wrapping his arms around him and pressing kisses to his forehead until Kevin calmed down again. It was something Nico had grown to cherish, in a strange way. It made him feel connected to Kevin, made him feel like he was helping, even if it was just through small gestures.
There was one particular evening that stood out.
Kevin had been irritable all day, nothing going right for him. He was pacing the kitchen, ranting about something trivial-Nico couldn't even remember what had set him off in the first place-but Nico let him go, listening as Kevin raged.
"And another thing," Kevin snapped, running a hand through his hair. "Why the hell do the cabinets have to be so high? It's like they designed this place for giants."
Nico bit back a smile, watching Kevin with a soft, amused gaze. He knew Kevin wasn't really angry about the cabinets. It was just one of those days, and Nico wasn't going to do anything to make it worse.
Instead, he waited until Kevin had finally run out of steam, standing there with his arms crossed, his chest heaving slightly from the outburst.
Nico stepped forward, wrapping his arms around Kevin's waist and pulling him close. "Feel better?" he asked softly, his lips brushing against Kevin's temple.
Kevin grumbled something unintelligible, but Nico could feel the tension slowly melting out of him.
"Come here," Nico whispered, gently guiding Kevin towards the couch. He sat down, pulling Kevin into his lap, his arms still firmly wrapped around him. "You're okay. Just breathe."
Kevin let out a shaky breath, leaning his head against Nico's shoulder. "Sorry."
Nico shook his head. "Don't apologize. You can yell at me whenever you want."
Kevin snorted. "That's not the point."
Nico chuckled softly, his hand finding its way to Kevin's belly again, rubbing soothing circles. "I love you," he murmured, kissing Kevin's forehead. "Even when you're mad at cabinets."
Kevin sighed, his body relaxing fully against Nico's. "I love you too."
And that was all Nico needed to hear. He didn't care if Kevin snapped at him or got emotional over little things. He loved all of it, every part of Kevin, and he was more than happy to kiss away the frustration whenever it came.
