That evening, after they finally got Helena to bed—she was always full of energy after a day in the paddock—Kevin and Nico found themselves on the couch, the apartment feeling weirdly quiet without her running around. Kevin leaned back into the cushions with a sigh, rubbing his face. It had been a great day, but exhausting didn't even begin to cover it.
Nico walked in with a glass of water, taking one look at Kevin and stopping in his tracks. Something had been off with Kevin for weeks now, and Nico couldn't shake the feeling. He set the glass down on the table, crossed his arms, and gave Kevin that look—the one that meant he wasn't going to drop it.
"You've been acting kinda weird lately," Nico said, his tone casual but sharp enough to cut through the silence. "Not just today. For some time now. What's going on?"
Kevin froze for a second, glancing at Nico like a deer caught in headlights. He cleared his throat and shrugged. "Weird? I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't give me that," Nico shot back, a smirk tugging at his lips. "You think I don't know you by now? Something's up, Kev. And I wanna know what it is."
Kevin sighed, running a hand through his hair. There was no getting out of this one. "Alright," he said, motioning for Nico to sit down. "You're right. There's something I need to tell you."
Nico's brows pulled together, and he sat next to Kevin, turning so they were face-to-face. His concern was written all over his face. "What is it?"
Kevin hesitated, his hands fiddling with the edge of his sweatshirt. His heart was pounding, and he hated how nervous he felt. This wasn't exactly new territory for them, but it still felt like a big deal.
He reached for the drawer in the coffee table, pulling out a small envelope. "Just... open this," Kevin said quietly, handing it over.
Nico looked at him, confused, but did as he was told. He pulled out the sonogram, staring at the black-and-white image for a second before his jaw dropped. His eyes snapped back to Kevin, wide with disbelief.
"Wait... is this—are you—" Nico stammered, completely thrown off.
Kevin bit his lip, a nervous smile creeping onto his face. "Yeah," he said softly. "I'm pregnant. Again."
Nico blinked, his mouth opening and closing like he couldn't decide what to say. Finally, he managed, "You're serious? Like... this is real?"
"Pretty real," Kevin said, his voice barely above a whisper. He placed a hand on his stomach, watching Nico's reaction carefully.
Nico stared at the sonogram again, and slowly, a grin spread across his face—a big, stupidly happy grin that made Kevin's chest ache in the best way. "Another baby," Nico said, almost like he couldn't believe it. "We're having another baby."
Kevin let out a shaky laugh, relief washing over him. "Yeah. We are."
Nico reached for Kevin's hand, holding it tight. "You could've told me sooner," he said, his voice soft but firm. "You know I'd drop everything for you."
"I know," Kevin admitted, looking down. "But you've been so focused on the season, and I didn't want to throw this at you while you were in the middle of everything. I needed to process it myself first."
"Well, you're not doing it on your own anymore," Nico said, squeezing Kevin's hand. He moved his free hand to rest gently over Kevin's, where it covered his stomach. "We're in this together. Always."
Kevin smiled, leaning into Nico's touch. "I know. And I'm glad," he murmured.
For a while, they just sat there, holding hands in the soft glow of the living room lights, letting the weight of the news settle between them. It wasn't a heavy weight, though. It was warm and full of hope—just like their growing family.

Later that night, after the initial excitement had simmered down and the house was quiet, Kevin and Nico sat together on the couch. The sonogram was still sitting on the coffee table, the tiny black-and-white image a surreal reminder of how much their lives were about to change—again.
Nico leaned his head back, a soft smile playing on his lips as he glanced at Kevin. "So," he started, his tone light but thoughtful. "How are we going to tell Helena?"
Kevin, curled up with his legs tucked under him, looked over at Nico with a small laugh. "Honestly, I have no idea. She's only two—how much is she even going to understand?"
"Well, she's already smart as hell," Nico pointed out, shifting to face Kevin more fully. "She probably won't get the whole concept, but I think she'll figure out something's up when you start showing."
Kevin snorted. "You mean when I can't chase her around the house anymore without huffing like an old man?"
Nico chuckled, reaching out to rest a hand on Kevin's knee. "Exactly. But seriously, Kev, we should tell her soon. She might not understand everything, but she deserves to know."
Kevin nodded, his expression softening. "You're right. I just... I want to make sure she doesn't feel like she's being replaced, you know? She's our whole world right now, and I don't want her to feel any less special."
Nico's brows furrowed slightly, his hand giving Kevin's knee a reassuring squeeze. "She's not going to feel that way. You know how much she loves being the center of attention—and I bet she'll love the idea of being a big sister. She'll probably start bossing the baby around as soon as they're born."
Kevin laughed at that, the thought easing some of his worries. "Yeah, I can see that. She already bosses us around half the time."
"Exactly," Nico said, grinning. "We just need to make it sound like a promotion. 'Big Sister Helena'—it's got a nice ring to it, don't you think?"
Kevin shook his head with a smile. "You make it sound so easy."
"Because it will be," Nico replied, his voice soft but confident. "We'll make sure she knows she's loved, and that this baby is just adding more love to the family—not taking any away."
Kevin leaned into Nico, resting his head on his shoulder. "You always know what to say," he murmured.
Nico pressed a kiss to Kevin's temple. "That's because I know you, and I know Helena. We'll figure it out together, just like we always do."
Kevin sighed contentedly, letting himself relax for the first time all evening. "Alright," he said. "Let's tell her tomorrow. But you're doing the talking—I'm just there for backup."
"Deal," Nico said with a laugh, wrapping his arm around Kevin and pulling him closer. "But don't think you're off the hook if she has follow-up questions. That's all you."
Kevin rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. "Fine. Teamwork, then."
"Always," Nico agreed, holding him close as they started planning how to share the news with their curious, chaos-loving little girl.
