Kevin had known this day would come. He couldn't race much longer-his belly had grown noticeably over the past few weeks, rounding out as the baby developed. Nearly four months along, it was getting harder to hide. The bump was small but unmistakable, and racing was starting to feel like too much.

It was time to stop.

Telling the team about Kevin's pregnancy had been a nerve-wracking moment for both him and Nico, but when the day finally came, Nico stood beside Kevin, offering silent support. They were both aware of how unexpected the news would be-pregnancies weren't exactly part of the standard racing career announcement. Still, this wasn't something they could keep hidden any longer.

They sat in the meeting room with the Haas team's management and key personnel, the air tense with anticipation. Kevin shifted in his seat, glancing at Nico, who gave him a reassuring nod. The moment felt heavier than any race briefing or strategy meeting they'd been through.

"Before we get into anything else," Kevin began, his voice steady but carrying a weight to it, "there's something I need to share with all of you." He paused, taking a breath. "I'm stepping back from racing... because I'm expecting a baby."

The room fell silent. You could hear the faint buzz of electronics, the shuffle of papers. Kevin's heart pounded in his ears. He glanced at Nico, who was watching the room, eyes scanning the faces around them, ready to jump in if necessary. Nico's calm presence was an anchor, and Kevin appreciated that more than words could say.

Finally, one of the team's senior engineers cleared his throat. "A baby?" His tone was incredulous, but not hostile, just... surprised. "Well, that's... unexpected."

Another manager nodded slowly, absorbing the information. "We didn't see that coming."

There was a shared glance between some of the other team members, but no one said anything negative. The shock on their faces was real, but it wasn't the kind of shock that came with judgment. Slowly, heads started to nod. They understood.

"You need to prioritize your health," the team principal finally said, breaking the silence with a supportive smile. "Your health and your baby's well-being come first."

Kevin exhaled in relief, his shoulders relaxing as the weight he'd been carrying for weeks seemed to lift just a little. Nico put a hand on his back, giving him a gentle squeeze of support, showing in his quiet way that he was proud of Kevin for doing this.

The meeting ended on a respectful note. Handshakes were exchanged, some with congratulations murmured under their breath, and Kevin walked out of the room feeling like he'd done the right thing.

But a few days later, everything changed.

Whispers followed him as he walked through the paddock. People exchanged glances when they thought he wasn't looking, and it wasn't long before Kevin caught wind of the comments online. Nasty, cruel things. Why is he pregnant? Can't even win races, now he's having babies? What a joke. It was too much, too overwhelming. It felt like the world was judging him, mocking him for something he couldn't control.

The pressure built up, and Kevin couldn't escape it.

When Nico came to see him later that day, the dam broke.

The German entered their hotel room, smiling gently as he always did, but Kevin saw red. He couldn't stop the words that tumbled out. "This is your fault!" Kevin snapped, his voice trembling with anger. Nico stopped in his tracks, his brows furrowing in confusion. "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be in this mess. I wouldn't be...this!"

"Kev, what are you talking about?" Nico asked, taking a step toward him.

But Kevin couldn't hear him, couldn't stop the flood of emotions boiling inside him. "I regret this baby, Nico. Do you know that? I regret it because its father is a waste. You haven't even scored a podium! What kind of father are you going to be?"
