The morning sun streamed into their room as Kevin and Nico made their way down to breakfast. The tension from the previous night had lifted, leaving behind a sense of warmth and understanding between them. Kevin, feeling a little lighter, was thankful that Nico had stayed by his side. But as they entered the hotel dining room, the murmurs began.
Nico noticed them first-the snickers, the glances, the whispers. It was as if the entire world had something to say about Kevin, about them. A few drivers, some fans, and even team principals were gathered, exchanging knowing looks.
Nico had never really noticed before. He had been too wrapped up in his own emotions to understand the weight Kevin carried. But now, seeing the way people reacted, the casual cruelty of their gossip, something in Nico shifted. His protective instincts kicked in hard.
Without a second thought, Nico slid his arm around Kevin's waist, pulling him close. He leaned down, pressing his lips softly to Kevin's ear. "Ignore them," he whispered. "They don't matter."
Kevin smiled weakly, but his eyes betrayed the exhaustion from all the judgment. Nico could see the toll it had taken on him, and he wasn't going to let it continue.
In front of every driver, fan, and team principal in the room, Nico turned Kevin to face him. He cupped Kevin's face in his hands, his thumbs gently stroking his cheeks. Then, without a care for who was watching, Nico pulled Kevin into a deep, all-consuming kiss. His lips moved softly but passionately against Kevin's, pouring every ounce of love he had into the kiss.
The entire room fell silent.
Nico's hand slid down, caressing Kevin's belly, stroking it the way he knew Kevin loved. The way he always did to remind Kevin he was here, that they were in this together. The kiss deepened, their connection undeniable as Nico's protective love wrapped around Kevin like a shield, pushing all the noise of the world away.
When they finally broke apart, Kevin's cheeks were flushed, but his smile was wide, and a soft, happy laugh escaped his lips. "Nico..." he murmured, his voice filled with emotion.
The silence in the room was broken by the sound of clapping-slow, deliberate clapping. Kevin and Nico turned to see Max Verstappen and Checo Pérez making their way over, grinning from ear to ear.
Max was the first to speak, his voice dripping with humor. "Well, that was something."
Checo nudged Max playfully, a smirk on his lips. "You two never do anything halfway, huh?"
Kevin let out a soft laugh, still recovering from the intensity of Nico's public display of affection. "You guys are enjoying this way too much," Kevin teased.
Max shrugged, pretending to be nonchalant. "Hey, we're just here to support our friends. And by the way..." He reached into a bag he was carrying, pulling out two tiny baby jumpers. They were emblazoned with the Red Bull Racing logo, each one featuring their driver numbers-33 and 11-embroidered on the front.
"For the little one," Checo said, grinning as he held out the jumpers. "Gotta start them young, right?"
Kevin's eyes lit up as he took the tiny outfits from Checo's hands. "Are you serious?" He couldn't help but laugh, his heart swelling at the gesture. The tension of the morning evaporated in an instant, replaced by the warmth of friendship and the realization that, no matter what, he wasn't alone in this.
"Absolutely," Max said, smirking. "Besides, we need someone to carry on the Verstappen-Pérez legacy."
Kevin looked down at the baby jumpers, his fingers brushing over the fabric, and for the first time in days, he felt like everything was going to be okay. He leaned into Nico, who kissed his temple softly, his arm still wrapped protectively around Kevin.
