Kevin lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, trying to wrap his head around everything that had changed. His body felt different, the subtle shifts slowly making themselves known. His chest felt heavier, his muscles sore in ways he wasn't used to. He could feel it, every small change, and it was both terrifying and incredible at the same time.
But as strange as it all felt, there was one constant that made everything bearable-Nico. Kevin had been unsure at first, scared of how things would be after the truth came out, but Nico hadn't wavered. He was always there, hovering in the background, ready with a calm presence that Kevin hadn't even known he needed.
Kevin sat on the couch, legs curled under him as he nursed yet another milkshake, the remains of his fries spread out on the table. His cravings had become an all-day thing, and though he loved the salty-sweet combo, guilt gnawed at him. He wasn't used to feeling this way about food-he never cared too much before-but now, the endless cycle of milkshakes and fries was starting to make him feel self-conscious.
He sighed, rubbing his belly absently, his thoughts swirling with frustration. Just as he was about to dive back into his fries, Nico walked in, his ever-watchful eyes catching sight of the fast-food feast.
"Fries again?" Nico teased, his smile gentle as he dropped a small bag onto the table. "I'm sensing a pattern here."
Kevin rolled his eyes but couldn't help the small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, yeah. Don't judge. They're good, okay?"
Nico plopped down beside him, shrugging with a playful smirk. "Not judging. Just... noticing."
Kevin let out a groan, setting the milkshake down. "I feel terrible, though. I've been eating nothing but junk all day. It's like my body's betraying me or something. I should be eating better for... well, you know." His hand instinctively rested on his belly, the weight of his words clear.
Nico's expression softened. "Hey, you don't need to feel bad about that," he said, reaching into the bag and pulling out containers of freshly cut fruits and vegetables. He placed them in front of Kevin. "I noticed you were feeling a bit off about the cravings, so I thought I'd bring some options. But... if your body's craving fries or milkshakes, that's okay too. You're growing a whole person, Kev. Your body knows what it needs."
Kevin blinked, looking at the neatly arranged slices of fruit and crisp vegetables, then back up at Nico. His chest tightened as a wave of emotion washed over him. "You did this... for me?" he asked, his voice thick.
"Of course I did," Nico said simply, picking up a slice of apple and holding it out for Kevin. "You don't have to choose between enjoying what you want and feeling good about it. I've got you covered, okay?"
Kevin hesitated for a moment before taking the apple, the tangy sweetness hitting his taste buds. "Thanks, Nico," he mumbled, chewing slowly. "I mean... I know it's not a big deal, but I just feel like... I don't know, like I should be doing better, somehow."
Nico shook his head, his hand moving to rest on Kevin's belly. "You're doing amazing. And if that means eating fries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner some days, then so be it. I'm not going anywhere."
A quiet laugh escaped Kevin's lips, the tension in his chest easing a little as he leaned into Nico's side. "I really don't deserve you, do I?"
"Not even close," Nico teased, grinning as he grabbed a carrot stick and nudged it toward Kevin's lips. "But I'm still here, so you're stuck with me."
Kevin took the carrot, feeling lighter, and rested his head on Nico's shoulder. "I think I'm okay with that."
Days passed, and Kevin began to notice something curious-Nico's attention. It wasn't that Nico was neglecting his work. He was as sharp and focused as ever when handling meetings or discussing strategies with the team. But the moment Kevin was nearby, Nico's focus subtly shifted, as though the world dimmed and Kevin was all that mattered.
