As the last of the spirits fade away, the base begins to rumble. Dust falls from the ceiling, and the ground beneath Mike and Jake's feet trembles. Whatever power had kept this place running is now destabilizing, and they both know they have little time to escape.
"We have to find Sarah," Jake says, his voice urgent. "She might still be alive down there."
Mike nods, though the exhaustion in his eyes is undeniable. The battle with the spirits took more out of him than he'd like to admit, but he forces himself to move forward. "Let's go."
They make their way back to the edge of the pit where Sarah had fallen, but it's deeper than they remembered, the darkness below impenetrable. There's no sign of her, no sound except the distant rumble of the collapsing base.
"We need to go down," Jake insists, scanning the edge for a way to climb down. But before they can make a move, the walls tremble violently, and a section of the ceiling collapses behind them, cutting off their retreat.
"We're out of time!" Mike shouts, grabbing Jake's arm. "We have to get to the exit, or we'll be trapped!"
Jake hesitates, torn between the need to find Sarah and the urgency of their escape. But in that moment, he knows Mike is right. They can't save Sarah if they're dead.
Together, they run toward the metallic door at the far end of the chamber, dodging falling debris as the base crumbles around them. The door is heavy, but with a combined effort, they manage to wrench it open, revealing a long, narrow passage that seems to lead to the surface.
As they sprint down the passage, the rumbling grows louder, and the walls begin to crack. But just as they reach the exit, Jake stops abruptly.
"I can't leave her," he says, turning back toward the collapsing chamber.
"Jake, no!" Mike shouts, but it's too late. Jake is already running back toward the pit, determined to find Sarah.
Mike watches in horror as the ceiling above Jake gives way, burying him in rubble.
