Renee snuggled up next to me, and I stroked her damp hair from the dew. Only then did I gradually feel a sense of reality, and my heart was filled with joy. This joy made me temporarily forget all my previous worries, and all I cared about was the beauty that was about to reach its peak.

The wind blew, and I hugged her even tighter. She whispered in my ear about the future: "Lucas, what are your plans for this year?"

I thought about it for a moment and replied, "You're my girlfriend now, so of course I'll stay in Suzhou with you."

Renee nodded and after a short silence asked, 'What are your plans?"

Of course I knew that by 'plans" Renee meant work, so without thinking too much I said, "After the bar stabilizes, I'll hand it back to Violetta. Based on the current situation, it will stabilize soon, and then I'll find a job and do that."

"You definitely won't consider Jumei, right?"

I smiled and said, "Do you want us to be together and always be bothered by endless gossip? ... Let's just be happy together and not cause trouble for ourselves, okay?"

Renee didn't say anything and fell silent.

I put my hands on her shoulders and said with a smile, "Cheer up! ... You know that even if I go to Jumei, at best it would just be like having another Harlan or Mark, and it wouldn't make much of a difference!"

"You and them are not in the same place in my heart!"

"But my abilities are not much better than theirs! The more you use me and keep me by your side, the more it shows that I need to live under your protection and in your shadow. This is not what I want. Even if I am down and out, even if I am in trouble, at least I am still me."

Renee shook her head: "When we decided to be together, everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine. Why bother with those boring stares?"

"You're right, we do belong to each other, but only in our hearts, not in terms of material things..."

Renee didn't want to argue with me anymore, and after a long while she said, "Maybe you're right, I've always understood what you're after..."

Her expression made me feel a little uncomfortable, so I said, "In the future, I will be your strongest support in life. Every day when you come home, I will cook a delicious meal for you. When you are tired, I will give you a massage to make you feel better and relieve the fatigue from work. Wouldn't that be great? Why do both of us have to be so busy at work that we don't have any spare time for hobbies?"

"You think you're not busy when you work for other companies?"

"It's true that I'm not busy. If you don't believe me, go ask Harlan about it. When I was working in the planning department of Poly Department Store, I knew how to kill time... I'll tell you: I was the only person in the whole company who never got the Perfect Attendance Award every month! And I held that record for an historic 21 months, without any predecessor or successor!"

Renee looked at me helplessly and said after a while, "I'm surprised you can laugh about it. If you were at Jumei, you would have been fired a long time ago!"

"Right! It's better for me to be sensible than for you to fire me! I can't go to Jumei and be that black sheep that makes you, the general manager, lose face!"

"In the end, you're right!"

Although Renee was still very helpless, I knew that the matter of our future jobs had been temporarily resolved between us. So I asked half-jokingly, half-seriously, "I remember you once telling me that you would only live with your boyfriend. Now, is it time to consider moving back into the old house?"
