And of course the theme of the story must be about Vivi becoming her authentic self, with or without either man. What are some ways that Julian might have expressed his torment? It must be subtle, for he is very stoic (in fact, his wife Amelia is far more expressive in her dissatisfaction with her relationship and current life circumstances of being a busy wife and mother).
