We walked down the corridor. At the end of it, my father was waiting.

– Wow, you look beautiful, – he said.
– Thank you.
– Are you ready?

I took a deep breath and looked ahead. Through the small gap in the door, I could see the guests—there were so many. I gathered my thoughts and said:

– I'm ready.

My father took my arm, the door opened, and we walked toward the altar. I could feel so many angry, envious stares on me. It made me uncomfortable. Damon was standing at the altar, not looking particularly cheerful, as usual. When we reached the altar, my father stepped aside, and I stood next to Damon. He glanced at me, and I could see sadness in his eyes; he wasn't too thrilled about this marriage either. The officiant began his speech.

– Damon Blackwood, do you take Divya Lance to be your wife?

Damon didn't hesitate and immediately replied:

– Yes.

– Divya Lance, do you take Damon Blackwood to be your husband and take his last name?

My throat went dry at these words, and I needed a few seconds to compose myself.

– Devi? – Damon nudged me.
– Huh?

The officiant looked at me impatiently; he didn't like having to repeat the question.

– Divya Lance, do you take Damon Blackwood to be your husband and take his last name?
– Yes.

He took out the rings and handed them to us. We took them and, for a brief moment, looked at each other before Damon looked away and began placing the ring on my finger. I did the same.

– You are now officially husband and wife!

The guests stood up and started applauding. Everyone then moved to the banquet hall. Damon and I sat together while people danced, sang, and had fun, but inside, I felt nothing but sadness.

– Your brother didn't come to your wedding? – I asked Damon.
– My brother? Haha, Devi, don't make me laugh. My brother has never cared about the family. The moment he turned 18, he left and never looked back.
– I see.
– You look really beautiful today, I honestly didn't expect it.
– Thank you.

Suddenly, something happened—a fight broke out between two guys at the wedding. Damon went over to check on what was going on. It was happening in a corner of the hall
