Y/N's POV
I didn't think much about the bruises on my wrist when I woke up the next morning. I was more focused on the fact that I had nearly been eaten by an Acromantula and that Draco had, in some twisted way, saved me. But the marks his grip left on my skin were hard to ignore.
As I got dressed, I winced when my fingers brushed against the dark bruises forming around my wrist. I pulled my sleeve down, covering them up. I didn't want anyone to ask questions—least of all Harry.
But, of course, that's exactly what happened.
I met him in the common room, and we headed down to breakfast together. It felt normal—comforting, even, after the craziness of last night. We talked about Quidditch practice, classes, and how much homework we still had to finish.
But when we reached the Great Hall and sat down, Harry's eyes fell on my wrist as I reached for some toast.
"Y/N, what's that?" His voice was sharp, his eyes narrowing.I froze, pulling my sleeve down further, but it was too late. "It's nothing," I muttered, trying to brush it off.
Harry wasn't having it. He grabbed my wrist gently but firmly, pulling the sleeve up to reveal the bruises. "That's not nothing," he said, his voice filled with concern. "How did this happen?"
I sighed, knowing I couldn't avoid it. "It's from last night," I admitted quietly. "I... I went into the Forbidden Forest."
"What?" Harry's voice rose, attracting the attention of a few nearby students. "Why would you do something like that? What were you thinking?"
"I got a letter from Sirius," I explained, lowering my voice. "He asked me to meet him there, said it was about our family. I thought he might have some answers."
At the mention of Sirius, Harry's face shifted—darkened. His jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with anger and something else I couldn't quite place. "You went to meet *him*? Alone?" His voice was tight, his fists clenched on the table.
"Harry, it wasn't like that," I tried to explain. "I just wanted to know more about our past, about why he's really after you—"
"After me?" Harry cut me off, his voice rising. "Y/N, Sirius Black isn't just after me. He's after both of us. Do you know how dangerous that was? He could've done something to you—used you to get to me!"
I was taken aback by his reaction. I hadn't expected this level of anger. "Harry, he didn't hurt me. He didn't even come close to it," I said, trying to calm him down. "Draco showed up, and I—"
"Malfoy?" Harry's eyes darkened further, and I could feel the tension building. "You're telling me that not only did you go meet a murderer, but Malfoy was there too? What the hell is going on, Y/N?"
"He didn't mean to hurt me," I added quickly. "Yes, Draco was there, but he actually helped. There was an Acromantula—"
"Malfoy?" Harry spat the name as though it was poison, his fists clenching. "I don't care what he did. He left those bruises on your wrist. I'm not letting him get away with this."
Before I could stop him, Harry pushed back from the table, his face set with fury as he stormed out of the Great Hall.
"Harry, wait!" I called, scrambling to follow him, but he wasn't listening.
Harry's POV
Sirius Black. Malfoy. Forbidden Forest.
It all swirled in my head as I marched across the Great Hall, anger boiling in my veins. Y/N had gone to meet Sirius *alone*—the same Sirius who had betrayed my parents, the same Sirius who was after me. And now Malfoy was involved?
My blood boiled at the thought of him leaving those bruises on Y/N's wrist. That slimy git had always had it out for her, for me. But now, after everything? I couldn't stand by and let him get away with it.
I pushed through the students and made a beeline for the Slytherin table. Draco was sitting there, smug as ever, surrounded by his usual group. When he saw me coming, he raised an eyebrow, but I didn't care about whatever act he was putting on.
"Malfoy!" I shouted, grabbing everyone's attention.
He leaned back in his seat, looking entirely too relaxed. "Potter," he drawled lazily. "What brings you here?"
"You know exactly what this is about," I snapped, my fists clenched at my side. "You hurt Y/N."
Draco's expression didn't change. He looked at me with a mix of boredom and amusement, as if this whole thing was just a game. "Potter, if your sister can't handle a bit of—"
I didn't let him finish. Without thinking, I shoved him back against the table, my heart pounding with rage.
"Don't you ever touch her again," I growled, barely keeping my voice low.
Draco's smirk disappeared, and for a moment, I thought I saw something flicker in his eyes—surprise? Guilt? But then he masked it with a sneer.
"Funny," he said coldly, straightening up as he dusted off his robes. "Considering I saved her life last night."
That stopped me in my tracks, but before I could respond, Y/N rushed over, grabbing my arm."Harry, stop!" she pleaded, pulling at me. "You don't understand. Draco didn't mean to hurt me—he actually saved me."
I turned to her, bewildered. "He saved you?"
"Yes," she insisted. "I was in danger, and he pulled me away. It wasn't like what you're thinking. Please, just drop it."
I hesitated, breathing hard, but the look in Y/N's eyes stopped me from pushing further. Reluctantly, I let her drag me out of the hall, my anger still simmering beneath the surface.
Draco's POV
I watched as Potter stormed out of the Great Hall, dragging Y/N along with him. My heart was racing, though I kept my face blank. I couldn't let anyone see the way her words had affected me.
Saved her life. Right.
That wasn't supposed to happen. I wasn't supposed to care what happened to her. I wasn't supposed to follow her into the forest. I definitely wasn't supposed to feel... protective.
But now Potter thought I had hurt her. I saw the bruises on her wrist and something twisted inside me. Guilt. I hadn't meant to grab her so hard—I was just trying to get her out of danger. I had been angry, panicked. But explaining that to Potter? Useless.
I had to stay distant. I had to keep my mask on. The more involved I got, the more dangerous it became.
That night, back in the Slytherin dormitory, I lay awake, staring at the ceiling. My mind kept wandering back to Y/N—her face, her voice, the way she defended me in front of Potter. Why did she do that? Why did she care?
It didn't matter. I couldn't let myself think about her like that. We were on opposite sides. Whatever had happened in the forest last night didn't change that.I had to be careful. For both of us.
Y/N's POV
Later that night, as I sat in the common room, I couldn't shake the tension between Harry and me. He hadn't said much after we left the Great Hall, and I knew he was still upset.
But there was something else on my mind too. The letter I had received earlier that evening. Another letter from Sirius.
Y/N,
Something went wrong last night. Our meeting was compromised. Someone was watching, and I couldn't risk staying longer.
It's more important than ever that you know the truth. Tonight, when everyone is asleep, get to the Gryffindor common room fireplace. Bring Harry. We'll be able to talk safely there.
—Sirius Black
My heart raced as I read the letter. Compromised? Had someone seen me in the forest? Was it Draco?
I didn't know, but one thing was certain: I couldn't ignore Sirius, but Harry told me not to take any chances with him. What if he was actually out to get the both of us?I couldn't risk our lives, not when I wasn't sure about what I was doing.
