Nicole stepped out of the club, the music and lights still pulsing behind her. She looked around, expecting to see Devin near his car, but all she saw was taillights disappearing down the street. He was already gone. She let out a frustrated sigh, her heart sinking a little. Tasha, still outside, walked over with a knowing look on her face. "He left, huh?"
"Yeah...I didn't get a chance to talk to him," Nicole said, staring at the spot where his car had been just moments ago.
Tasha leaned against the wall, foldin' her arms. "I told you, girl. Devin's feelin' you heavy. Him leavin' like that? That was 'cause he couldn't stand seein' you dancin' with that other dude."
Nicole blinked, feelin' a rush of confusion. "But we're just friends. Why didn't he ever say anything?"
"'Cause he's scared," Tasha said, shakin' her head. "Scared of gettin' rejected, scared of things changin'. But it's eatin' him up, Nic."
Nicole bit her lip, thinkin' about all the times Devin had been there for her, how close they always were. She felt a strange mix of emotions—guilt, confusion, and maybe a hint of something more. She wasn't ready to deal with it all right now.
"I don't know what to do, Tash," she admitted, her voice low.
Tasha gave her a soft smile and shrugged. "Ain't nothin' you gotta do tonight. Come back inside, let's finish celebratin' Darius's birthday. You'll figure it out."
Nicole nodded, glancin' one more time in the direction Devin had gone. Then, takin' a deep breath, she turned back toward the club.
