Beaten down instead of being raised.
Left to search for love in unsavoury places.
Lived in an array of houses,
Though, never having a home to set down roots.
Surrounded by countless people claiming to be family,
Ever alone in a room full of familiar strangers.
Expected and forced to grow up too soon,
Losing my human right to a childhood.
Taking on parental responsibilities as a child,
Children raising children to merely attempt to survive.
I am, we are, the children who grew up despite our world being against us...
We are the children who are in a constant state of survival...
We survive despite our broken hearts and no parents to catch us when it all becomes too much.
